10 Best Pokemon ROM Hacks With Multiple Regions

One of my childhood dreams as a Pokemon Trainer was being able to explore multiple regions in one Pokemon game. Just the thought of starting a whole new adventure while your previous Pokemon are ready and waiting as you create a legendary roster just hits different.

The official games rarely let players experience this fully, which is exactly why we have compiled the best Pokemon ROM hacks with multiple regions for you to get lost in.

These hacks massively expand the adventure by combining several regions, adding new stories, and giving players hundreds of hours of gameplay beyond what a normal Pokemon game offers.

Some stay faithful to the original games, while others completely reinvent the Pokemon formula with custom mechanics, original regions, and modern quality-of-life improvements. Let’s get right to it.

10 pokemon rom hacks with multiple regions

10. Pokemon Shadow Realm

  • Base Game: Pokemon Emerald
  • Regions: Kanto, Johto, Hoenn

The Pokemon world is in shambles, and reality itself is bending, leading to a crisis unlike any before.

The appeal in Pokemon Shadow Realm mostly comes from its unique and original story that seamlessly integrates its own shadow Pokemon system.

If you’re looking for something that’s fresh and unlike any ROM hack, this one is worth keeping your eye on.

It’s currently in its demo and testing phase, so it’s not for those who are looking for a completed experience. But it’s one of the hottest hacks that rolled out this year and will definitely be bigger in the months to come.

9. Pokemon Crossroads

  • Base Game: Pokemon Emerald
  • Regions: Hoenn, Kanto, Sevii Islands (Johto in active development)

This ROM hack’s goal is obvious. Combine FireRed and Emerald into one game to scratch the itch for the ultimate Kanto to Hoenn experience that fans have been begging for for decades.

While Johto is still under development, this ROM hack has already become one of the hottest topics in the community.

Reimagining three of the biggest and most iconic Pokemon games is definitely a grand undertaking. But the creator is more than determined to finish their masterpiece and is actively working on this new hack.

Kanto, Hoenn, and the Sevii Islands are all 100% playable in the current latest version. Johto is expected to roll out in the next Beta 2.0.

If Pokemon Crossroads is able to deliver on its promise, it will confirm its label as the “ultimate Game Boy Advance Pokemon adventure.”

8. Pokemon Unbound

  • Base Game: Pokemon FireRed
  • Regions: Borrius region + post-game areas

Pokemon Unbound is perhaps the most well-known ROM hack on this list, and it is also the most polished.

Whether you’re looking for a new region to explore, a deep and intricate story, or cool new features and side quests, this is the must-try hack.

This hack introduces the completely original Borrius region, a massive custom storyline involving Hoopa, difficulty settings, side missions, and Pokemon up to Gen 7.

While it technically doesn’t have many regions to explore, the sheer amount of top-quality content that is offered in the post-game is more than enough to rival other multi-region hacks.

The mission system, overworld interactions, and adjustable difficulty make it feel closer to a modern fangame than a typical GBA ROM hack

Some gym gimmicks can feel a little excessive, especially during challenge runs, but overall, Unbound delivers one of the most complete and content-packed Pokemon experiences ever made.

7. Pokemon Prism

  • Base Game: Pokemon Crystal
  • Regions: Naljo, Rijon, Johto, Kanto, Tunod

Pokemon Prism isn’t your typical enhancement hack. It’s one of the most ambitious GBC projects based on Pokemon Crystal, and the creator decided to completely renovate the classic experience by adding insane customization, base-building, and even mini-games.

You also get to see these various regions in different vibes thanks to the day-and-night cycle and seasonal system implemented.

Prism feels less like a ROM hack and more like an entirely new Pokemon game. The adventure constantly surprises you, though some dungeons can become brutally long and grindy.

Still, its creativity and massive scope make it one of the most unforgettable multi-region Pokemon hacks ever made.

6. Pokemon Cloud White

  • Base Game: Pokemon FireRed
  • Regions: Kanto, Sevii Islands, Johto, Mangan, and Azur (5 regions total)

Not only is this ROM hack one of the biggest on this list, it’s also one of the most popular ROM hacks in the community.

Pokemon Cloud White starts off with the original FireRed gameplay, but once you’re done with Kanto, it’s actually a super ambitious project that launches you into 5 different regions.

All 540 catchable Pokemon spanning Generations 1 through 7 are available, with an overwhelming amount of legendaries. Not only that, but you also have an extensive post-game with its own Pokemon World Tournament.

The sheer amount of content makes it one of the best multi-region hacks, but it also comes with drawbacks.

With this much content, the creator is kind of spread too thin, and there are some parts of the game that can definitely be improved. But overall, it’s definitely worth trying out.

5. Pokemon Resolute

  • Base Game: Pokemon Emerald
  • Regions: Sylon, Tyron, Johto (3 regions)

Pokemon Resolute and Mega Power are cut from the same cloth, offering high-difficulty gameplay and multiple custom regions. It features Pokemon up to Generation 7 and mega evolution as well.

With 3 regions to explore, this ROM hack has great scope and lots of content to offer. You’ll really take your time with this one given how challenging it is.

Though it’s kind of rough around the edges, Resolute is fully finished and playable from start to finish, unlike many ambitious ROM hacks that are abandoned in beta phases.

If you’re looking for something that can’t be Nuzlocked, then this ROM hack is for you. I would avoid it if you’re a casual player who also wants a polished experience.

4. Pokemon Mega Power

  • Base Game: Pokemon Emerald
  • Regions: Ivara, Lande, Sevii Islands (3 regions)

If challenging gameplay is your thing, then this multi-region ROM hack might be a good fit for you.

Pokemon Mega Power lets you play through 3 different regions as a scientist on a redemption arc.

The game focuses on fun and difficulty with its high-leveled, grind-heavy boss structure. There would be instances where you wouldn’t even have the chance to heal your Pokemon after a huge fight, and there’s another overleveled opponent lining up, never giving you the chance to rest.

The starter options are not the best for me. But it does give you Pokemon from Gens 1 to 7 and access to Mega Evolution. Combine that with its unique story, challenging yet enjoyable gameplay, and being able to explore 3 different regions and you have a ROM hack worth picking up.

3. Pokemon Nameless

  • Base Game: Pokemon Emerald
  • Regions: Cyenn Region, Western Tyron, Sevii Islands, and Lande (4 regions)

If you’re looking for a massive Pokemon world to explore with content that is well-thought out and extremely deep, then this hack is worth a shot.

Pokemon Nameless is not far from your traditional Pokemon game. Spoiler: it’s not for kids.

The game lets you explore 4 total regions, but the story and writing are where it really shines for me. This hack presents a much darker and more mature theme and isn’t for the fainthearted.

It breaks the typical Pokemon format and gives you an RPG experience filling the shoes of the main character, Chronya. The game doesn’t really do a lot of hand-holding, as you are dropped in the middle of nowhere and left to figure things out yourself.

It features Pokemon from Gens 1 to 8, Mega Evolution, and some modern QOL features. Pokemon Nameless takes you into a long and satisfying journey that gives us a glimpse of what real evil would look like if Pokemon existed.

2. Pokemon Light Platinum

  • Base Game: Pokemon Ruby
  • Regions: Zhery, Lauren (plus access to Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, and Unova content)

Experience DS graphics in your GBA emulator. Pokemon Light Platinum takes you to a custom-made Zhery Region and Lauren Region with new gym leaders, Elite Four, and villain teams. Encounter and catch Pokemon from Gens 1 to 5, including all legendaries.

Test your skills and Pokemon against two Elite Fours, 16 Gym Leaders, and multiple rivals. But the best part is after beating both leagues, you can enter the Pokemon World Championship. This content-rich ROM hack was intricately made featuring custom sprites, original music, and custom map design, making it the Hack of the Year 2012 in the Pokemon community.

If you don’t like to go back to the regions from the original games and instead want to explore never-before-seen places, then this ROM hack is a must-try.

1. Pokemon Glazed / Blazed Glazed

Pokemon glazed version start screen
  • Base Game: Pokemon Emerald
  • Regions: Tunod, Johto, and Rankor

Unlike many ROM hacks that simply recycle official regions, Pokemon Glazed blends original content with familiar locations in a way that feels surprisingly natural.

It started off with Pokemon Glazed, featuring a new region (Tunod), five starters, and Gen 4 to 5 Pokemon.

Later on, it lets you explore the Johto region and the custom Rankor region, giving you massive amounts of content to enjoy. The quality and quantity of adventures in this hack make it one of the most recommended multi-region ROM hacks in the community.

The story is not your typical get-all-badges-and-win-the-league story. It gives you a more mature role of saving the world from a mysterious power and bringing it back to its peaceful state.

But Glazed was critiqued for having some rough edges. That’s why Blazed Glazed was created, which is an enhanced and rebalanced version of the hack.

While adding new and updated content, it also improves the level curve, Pokemon balancing, movesets, and overall difficulty while polishing the original release.

Conclusion

Multi-region Pokemon ROM hacks offer something that the mainline games haven’t been able to for decades. It’s the feeling of going on a truly massive Pokemon journey.

Whether you want original regions like Tunod and Borrius, darker stories like Nameless, or giant crossover adventures like Cloud White and Crossroads, these ROM hacks provide hundreds of hours of exploration and content that go far beyond your typical Pokemon game.
