You also get to see these various regions in different vibes thanks to the day-and-night cycle and seasonal system implemented.
Prism feels less like a ROM hack and more like an entirely new Pokemon game. The adventure constantly surprises you, though some dungeons can become brutally long and grindy.

6. Pokemon Cloud White

5. Pokemon Resolute

Though it’s kind of rough around the edges, Resolute is fully finished and playable from start to finish, unlike many ambitious ROM hacks that are abandoned in beta phases.
If you’re looking for something that can’t be Nuzlocked, then this ROM hack is for you. I would avoid it if you’re a casual player who also wants a polished experience.
4. Pokemon Mega Power

If challenging gameplay is your thing, then this multi-region ROM hack might be a good fit for you.
Pokemon Mega Power lets you play through 3 different regions as a scientist on a redemption arc.
The game focuses on fun and difficulty with its high-leveled, grind-heavy boss structure. There would be instances where you wouldn’t even have the chance to heal your Pokemon after a huge fight, and there’s another overleveled opponent lining up, never giving you the chance to rest.
The starter options are not the best for me. But it does give you Pokemon from Gens 1 to 7 and access to Mega Evolution. Combine that with its unique story, challenging yet enjoyable gameplay, and being able to explore 3 different regions and you have a ROM hack worth picking up.
3. Pokemon Nameless
- Base Game: Pokemon Emerald
- Regions: Cyenn Region, Western Tyron, Sevii Islands, and Lande (4 regions)
If you’re looking for a massive Pokemon world to explore with content that is well-thought out and extremely deep, then this hack is worth a shot.
Pokemon Nameless is not far from your traditional Pokemon game. Spoiler: it’s not for kids.
The game lets you explore 4 total regions, but the story and writing are where it really shines for me. This hack presents a much darker and more mature theme and isn’t for the fainthearted.
It breaks the typical Pokemon format and gives you an RPG experience filling the shoes of the main character, Chronya. The game doesn’t really do a lot of hand-holding, as you are dropped in the middle of nowhere and left to figure things out yourself.
It features Pokemon from Gens 1 to 8, Mega Evolution, and some modern QOL features. Pokemon Nameless takes you into a long and satisfying journey that gives us a glimpse of what real evil would look like if Pokemon existed.
2. Pokemon Light Platinum
- Base Game: Pokemon Ruby
- Regions: Zhery, Lauren (plus access to Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, and Unova content)
Experience DS graphics in your GBA emulator. Pokemon Light Platinum takes you to a custom-made Zhery Region and Lauren Region with new gym leaders, Elite Four, and villain teams. Encounter and catch Pokemon from Gens 1 to 5, including all legendaries.
Test your skills and Pokemon against two Elite Fours, 16 Gym Leaders, and multiple rivals. But the best part is after beating both leagues, you can enter the Pokemon World Championship. This content-rich ROM hack was intricately made featuring custom sprites, original music, and custom map design, making it the Hack of the Year 2012 in the Pokemon community.
If you don’t like to go back to the regions from the original games and instead want to explore never-before-seen places, then this ROM hack is a must-try.
1. Pokemon Glazed / Blazed Glazed

- Regions: Tunod, Johto, and Rankor
Unlike many ROM hacks that simply recycle official regions, Pokemon Glazed blends original content with familiar locations in a way that feels surprisingly natural.
It started off with Pokemon Glazed, featuring a new region (Tunod), five starters, and Gen 4 to 5 Pokemon.
