Pokemon ghost grey cheats

What is Pokemon Ghost Grey?

Pokemon Ghost Grey is a FireRed-based and completed Pokemon ROM hack by joeyzeed. You explore a decayed Kanto in the year 2049. Ghosts have overrun the region and the remaining people are struggling.

You choose Rowlet, Litwick, or Spiritle for your starter Pokemon and your rival is named Summer.

The game has seven gyms and includes over 200 Ghost-type pokemon with 120 original regional variants. The graphics have been completely redonem, it even has voice acting with 130-track original soundtrack.

This is unusual for a GBA ROM hack but you can expect a whole new experience while playing. Pokemon Ghost Grey has physical/special split feature and even newer items.

Do Cheats Work in Pokemon Ghost Grey?

Absolutely, Yes! and a lot more popular cheats we know on FireRed are usable here in this rom hack.

If you know Unbound, Radical Red, Amethyst, they are built using the engine called CFRU (Complete FireRed Upgrade).

CFRU rewrites large parts of a game and heavily modifies them. That’s the reason why there other classic Pokemon FireRed cheats fail on those hacks, including the most favorite Walk Through walls.

Pokemon Ghost Grey is built using a different engine called HexManiacAdvance, a much cheat friendly tool that changes only the ROM’s content but not the underlying memory layout close to vanilla FireRed.

Cheats That Do Not Work in Pokemon Ghost Grey

Don’t bother with these cheats. These codes fail on Ghost Grey.

CheatWhy it fails
Max IVs / Perfect IVsThe author of Ghost Grey removed IVs and Hidden Power. All Pokemon have 0 IVs. The code has nothing to change.
Max EVs / EV training codesThe same with the Max IV, Max EV is also not available in this game. Pokemon normally don’t gain EVs.
Fast Egg hatchBreeding is not in the game.
Have all 8 badges cheatGhost Grey only has seven Gym Badges. Using a cheat that gives you all eight badges may cause progress issues or other unexpected problems in the game. We recommend avoiding this cheat.
Complete PokedexEven in the original Pokemon FireRed, this cheat is known to create issues. Using it in Pokemon Ghost Grey can also mess up your game, leading to incorrect Pokedex data. We recommend completing the Pokedex normally.

Pokemon Ghost Grey Cheats Not Working? Try This

  1. Wrong Cheat Type. A cheat when added to a wrong cheat type will do nothing. Cheat type is already provided in every cheat, make sure to follow it.
  2. Enabled too many cheats. Some emulators keep cheat effects active even after you disable the cheats in the settings. If this happens, disable all cheats and restart the emulator to help clear up any remaining cheat effects.
  3. Emulator limitations. There are emulators that do not fully support cheating. Double check if your emulator supports Code Breaker and Action Replay/GameShark cheats.
  4. Pressed the wrong button combination. Some cheats, like “Capture/Steal Trainer Pokemon” and “Run away from Trainer Battles” require button combinations to be pressed to activate them. Check your emulator’s control settings to see which keyboard keys are assigned to each GBA button. If needed, reconfigure the controls so you can press the required combination correctly.

Pokemon Ghost Grey Cheats FAQ

Do Pokemon FireRed cheats work in Ghost Grey

Mostly, yes. Pokemon Ghost Grey a binary FireRed hack built using HexManiacAdvance engine. The game’s memory layout stays close to Vanilla FireRed, that’s why many cheats we know from FireRed should also work in this game.

Which cheat type Pokemon Ghost Grey use?

Most of the time Action Replay/GameShark and CodeBreaker. Action Replay/GameShark cheats are longer – 16 digits per line, while CodeBreakers only have 12 digits per line.

Do I really need cheats to enjoy Pokemon Ghost Grey?

No, you don’t. Cheats are completely optional and are mainly there for extra fun. However, some cheats can be useful for getting extra money, skipping difficult obstacles, or reducing the time spent grinding.

Will cheats corrupt my save file?

Possibly. Cheats modify the game’s memory, and leaving certain cheats enabled for too long may cause glitches or save problems. To reduce the risk, disable cheats after using them and make sure all cheats are turned off before saving your game. We also recommend keeping a backup copy of your .sav file before using cheats.

    • Thanks for the heads up the update. Since the game is FireRed-based, cheats in the list are expected to survive and should work properly without issues. But I’ll look into the update and check if there’s a new code I can add.

Update: I downloaded version 1.0.4 and retested the cheats. I can confirm that the codes from the previous version still work on the latest version. Based on this, I expect these codes to remain usable even after future updates.

    • Yup, working on this now. Stay tuned for updates.

Update: I retested the codes and no changes were needed as the codes for v1.0.1 still works on v1.0.2. This is because Ghost Grey is a binary FireRed rom hack and vanilla FireRed memory-based codes may survive the patch.

  1. Decided to give the cheats on the libretro Fire Red cht since they’re expected to work (like Master balls), but they don’t work with ghost grey 🥺

    • Sorry, but I’m not familiar with libretro Fire Red cht. Can you try these codes on Myboy for Android or Delta for iOS instead?
