Cheats are for extra fun. That is the whole position, and everything below explains what it means in practice.
Why we publish cheat codes
Most people who look up a Pokemon cheat code have already finished the game once. They want a second run without grinding forty hours of Rare Candies. Some are testing a team build. Some are replaying a hack they love and want to skip straight to the part they remember. Some just think a shiny Charizard on route one is funny.
None of that is a threat to anyone. Cheats have been part of Pokemon since the GameShark, and people are going to search for them whether we publish them or not. Our choice is between a page that tests its codes and warns you what can go wrong, or a page that scrapes codes from 2005 and tells you nothing.
Cheats are not a replacement for the game
We do not treat cheats as the normal way to play. Every cheat page on this site says the same things: back up your save, run one code at a time, and turn each code off when you are done. Cheats break games. That is not a warning we bury in the small print — it is the reason half our pages exist.
If you are playing a ROM hack for the first time, play it the way the developer built it. The balance, the difficulty curve, and the pacing are the work. Come back for cheats on run two.
If you use cheats, report bugs the right way
This is the part that matters most, and the reason this page exists.
ROM hack developers keep getting bug reports for problems that cheats caused. Corrupted saves, Bad Eggs, freezes at a specific route, Pokemon that will not evolve, glitched items. The developer spends hours chasing a bug that was never in their game. It is the fastest way to burn out someone building something for free.
So before you report anything to a developer:
- Turn off every cheat. All of them, not just the one you think caused it.
- Load a save from before you enabled cheats. A save state is not enough — use a real in-game save.
- Try to make the bug happen again.
If the bug still happens on a clean save with no cheats running, it is a real bug. Report it to the developer, and mention that you tested it clean. They will thank you for it.
If the bug disappears, the cheat caused it. Do not report it to the developer. Tell us instead — leave a comment on the cheat page you used. We will re-test the code and either fix it, add a warning, or take it down.
If you are a ROM hack developer
We know these hacks are built for free, in your own time, usually with no thanks. Here is how we try not to make your life harder:
- We credit you by name on every page that covers your hack, and we link to your official page or release thread.
- We never host ROMs, patched ROMs, or BIOS files. We link to your official patch only.
- We hand-test our codes and put the tester’s name and test date on the page. We do not publish scraped or AI-generated codes.
- Every cheat page tells readers to disable cheats and load a clean save before sending you a bug report.
If a specific code is causing problems in your hack — corrupting saves, breaking a scripted event, or generating support requests you keep having to answer — email us and tell us which one. We will remove it.
We also offer two things any time you want them: we will publish a note from you on the relevant page in your own words, and we will add any cheat-related warnings you want players to see. Your voice on your own hack carries more weight than ours.
What we will not do is take down an entire guide on request. The codes exist across dozens of sites, and removing ours does not remove them from the internet — it only moves readers to pages that will not tell them to stop sending you bug reports. We think our page being the one people find is better for you than the alternative. If you disagree, write to us anyway. We would rather have the conversation.
What we never do
- Host or link to ROMs, patched ROMs, or BIOS files.
- Publish a cheat code we have not tested ourselves.
- Claim a cheat is safe. Cheats can corrupt saves. Back up first, every time.
- Encourage cheating in online play, ranked battles, or trades with other players.
