Pokemon SoulGold Cheats (v1.2): Working Codes for Money, Master Ball, Rare Candy and More

Quick Answer
Pokemon SoulGold is a decompilation rom hack using the pokeemerald-expansion engine. Since the game is a decomp, most standard Pokemon Emerald cheats we know do not work. Unfortunately, cheats for walking through walls, nature modifier are not available, and only limited Pokemon species for the wild Pokemon modifiers available. Despite that, we were able to get some working codes that could still be handy for your game. Make sure you do not overuse these cheats and disable after using.

What is Pokemon SoulGold?

  • Pokemon SoulGold is an emerald-based GBA ROM hack created by rahtak, built on the Pokemon Emerald engine using pokeemerald-expansion.
  • The game is based on unoffical expansion port of Heart and Soul – but NOT connected to the official Heart and Soul 2.0 version.
  • The game features expanded johto with new areas to explore, and expect the best experience while playing the game.
  • Modern features like mega evolution, reusable TMs, day/night cycle, fairy type and more.
  • New systems: Hidden Grottos that reset daily, Boss Pokemon with multiple health bars.

Looking for cheats for the DS games Pokemon HeartGold or Pokemon SoulSilver instead? These are different games, Pokemon SoulGold is GBA. Check out our collection of Pokemon HeartGold Cheats and Pokemon SoulSilver Cheats.

Do Cheats Work in Pokemon SoulGold?

  1. Short answer: Some cheats do work, but many standard cheats do not.
  2. The reason: Due to SoulGold being a decomp rom hack, it is heavily edited and rebuilt from source code. Making cheats extremely challenging to uncover.
Expected to workExpected to fail
Pokemart item modifier (including rare candy, master ball, tms, and many other Soulgold-specific items), no random battles, Shiny Encounter, 100% catch rate, money codes, max stats, and infinite pp.Walk through walls, teleport/warp, nature modifier, and catch trainer pokemon.

Before You Use Any Pokemon SoulGold Cheat

  1. Back up your save file: Not only the save state – The actual save file.
  2. Save in-game first: Do not use the save state.
  3. Use the correct ROM base.
  4. Use one cheat at a time. Adding multiple cheats at once on decomp hacks is a surefire way to trigger game freezing and force restarts.
  5. You can pair some cheats together. This is usually not recommended. However, some specific cheats work well when paired. Instructions will be provided if a cheat is meant for pairing.
  6. Turn cheats off after using. Leaving cheats enabled will glitch your game.
  7. Pick the correct cheat code for your version of SoulGold. Pokemon ROM hacks are updated from time to time, and their cheat codes may change as well.
  8. Never use codes from an older build. An outdated ROM code doesn’t just fail quietly. It writes new instructions into the wrong part of the game. In testing, an outdated Infinite PP code froze the battle entirely. If a code is not listed for your exact build, don’t enable it.
  9. Use mGBA core. If you’re using Manic Emu (iOS) or RetroArch (Android/iOS), make sure you use the mGBA core. Do not use VBA-M or gpSP.
  10. Download from official source. To make most of these cheats, get the latest version of Pokemon SoulGold only from its official source, Hackdex.app.
  11. Check your build, not just the version number. The SoulGold author sometimes re-releases a version on HackDex without changing its number. The “v1.1.4” you downloaded on 16 September and the “v1.1.4” you’d download today are different builds, and the GameShark codes differ between them. The only reliable way to tell them apart is the ROM’s CRC32 checksum.

How to Check and Verify Your Pokemon SoulGold Version for Cheats

Check and verify soulgold version

NOTE: The image below shows the Pokemon SoulGold version number, which in this example is v1.1. Make sure to choose the cheat codes that match your version of Pokemon SoulGold. Using codes made for a different version may cause the game to crash or freeze and could even corrupt your save file.

Verified Pokemon SoulGold Cheats

IMPORTANT: The cheat codes listed below work on specific version of Pokemon SoulGold, check your version before adding.

Wild Pokemon Modifier (CodeBreaker) (New)
Soulgold wild pokemon encounter cheat new

How it works: Replace YYYY with the Pokemon id and walk in the wild to begin the encounter. This cheat is expected to survive on future build updates.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The name shown stays the old species’ name but you can assign a nickname after capturing. Level, stats and moves are whatever the original encounter rolled, so it’s usually under-levelled for its species until it levels up. Turn it off before trainer battles, or the trainer’s lead Pokemon changes too.

The Pokemon IDs also include entries labeled “(Unused)“, as well as some IDs with repeated Pokemon names. I’ve left the “(Unused)” entries as they are so users know that these codes may not work or may be unsafe to use. This also prevents users from guessing and trying them, as using these codes could potentially cause the game to freeze or experience glitches.

Infinite PP
Pokemon soul gold infinite pp cheat

Important: You can find a CodeBreaker version of this infinite PP cheat online. It is short and works with more GBA emulators. This infinite PP version is more reliable. It preserves each move’s original PP and will never run out.

A move that starts with 5/5 will remain 5/5. A move that starts with 40/40 will remain 40/40. When you turn this cheat off, PP deducts normally. It also works for both players in double battles. Opponents will still lose PP as usual.

99 Battle Points (GameShark/Action Replay)

IMPORTANT: This cheat needs further testing and verification, I appreciate your feedback after activating the cheat. Post your thoughts in the comment section below.

How to activate:

  1. Add all three lines as one cheat and enable it.
  2. Visit the Battle Frontier Exchange Service Corner.
  3. Choose an item or decoration costing more than 99 BP, such as the 128-BP Lapras Doll.
  4. Confirm the purchase. The game will set your balance to 99, then reject the purchase for insufficient BP—so nothing is deducted.
  5. Exit the conversation and disable the cheat.
  6. Speak to the clerk again to verify the displayed balance is 99 BP.
  7. Save normally to make the balance permanent.

Pokemart item modifier cheat

How to use: Replace YYYY with the item id. The item’s price is expensive, but you can safely pair this cheat with the All shop items cost ₽1 cheat. Enable both before selecting Buy. Don’t combine them into one cheat entry because they use different formats.

  2. Enable it only while shopping
  3. Exit the shop
  4. Disable it before entering battle

Verified on v1.2

How it works: Replace YYYY with the move ID of your choice. This cheat allows you to teach your Pokemon any move during battle, and the move will remain temporarily while in battle. You can enter each line as a separate cheat if you want to specify which move slot to replace:

  • 1st line → 1st move
  • 2nd line → 2nd move
  • 3rd line → 3rd move
  • 4th line → 4th move

Alternatively, you can enter all four lines of the code at once to apply the cheat to all four move slots.

v1.1.4, v1.1.3, and v1.1.2 (unchanged from the last build)

v1.0.4.5

82037E26 YYYY

Important: The learned move should be permanent. Pokemon with fewer than four moves may learn the original HM/TM move instead.

No Random Encounter (CodeBreaker)

How it works: Activate this cheat to disable wild Pokemon encounters. It works like an infinite Repel and does not affect trainer battles. Once you disable the cheat, wild encounters will return naturally after approximately four eligible walking steps.

How it works: This gives your active Pokemon 9,999 in all five battle stats. These are temporary battle values and do not permanently alter the Pokemon.

IMPORTANT: Enable after the battle appears. Disable before leaving the battle.

Cheats That Do Not Work in Pokemon SoulGold

CheatWhy it Fails
Walk through wallsWalk through walls cheat isn’t normally found on decomp rom hacks due to heavy editing made to the game.
Wild Pokemon Modifier and Nature ModifierDue to complicated editing, species numbering changed in the decomp build.

Pokemon SoulGold Cheats Not Working? Try This

  1. Your game was silently updated. If codes that worked yesterday suddenly do nothing, freeze the game, or cause glitches, you may have downloaded a rebuilt version. The version number can stay the same while the game code underneath moves. Check your CRC32 and use the code list for your build.
  2. You probably used normal emerald cheat codes. Standard emerald cheats do not work on decomp rom hacks like Pokemon SoulGold, the game is built using different engine. Use only the code found above in our verified list.
  3. Wrong cheat type. In most cases, cheats can only CodeBreaker or GameShark/Action Replay. If your emulator gives invalid cheat error, switch to another cheat type. Many emulators support auto cheat detection- better use this.
  4. You enabled too many cheats. Enabling multiple cheat at once can cause the game to get confused due to multiple changes applied to its game memory. Disable everything, save your game progress, and restart your emulator.

Pokemon SoulGold Cheats Frequently Asked Questions

Why only some codes break after an update?

A rebuild moves the game’s code but usually leaves its memory layout alone. That’s why codes break in two groups:

– Usually keep working: CodeBreaker codes and Max Money, which change values in memory. On SoulGold these have stayed the same across 1.1.2, 1.1.3 and both 1.1.4 builds.

– Break on every rebuild: GameShark ROM codes, which change the game’s own instructions. These include Shop items cost ₽1, Money never decreases, Boxes anywhere, 100% catch, 2× EXP, Infinite PP, One-hit, 99 BP, and the Wild Pokemon modifier.

If only some of your cheats stopped working, this is almost certainly why.

How do I check my ROM’s build or CRC32 checksum?

On desktop, many GBA emulators have a built-in option to view your ROM’s CRC32 checksum. Most mobile emulators do not have this feature.

If your emulator cannot display the CRC32, search Google for a “ROM checksum checker” or “CRC32 checksum checker.” Choose a reliable tool, upload your ROM file, and it should display the CRC32 checksum.

Tip: The CRC32 helps you identify the exact ROM build you are using. This is important because cheat codes made for one build may not work on another.

  1. Is there a new “ghost update”? i checked the crc rom checker, mine is currently: 0AF141B7, while yours is – 2A57FA71, is that a newer one or mine’s the older one?

    Reply
    • I made another check and yes, you’re correct. There’s a new ghost update and the version you mentioned is the current one. But rest assured, majority of these cheats should still work specifically those with CodeBreaker cheat types. I’ll update this page soon, and thanks for the heads up.

      Reply
    • Delta is not a recommended emulator for this game. I suggest switching to Manic Emu, see attached screenshot for this cheat that worked with the Pokemon Basculegion using Manic Emu on my iPhone. Also, make sure you set the cheat as CodeBreaker. Hope this helps.

  2. Hi, Idk if its just me, but the 2x EXP doesnt seem to work, after any battle, it would freeze my game.

Currently on the latest v1.2 build on mGBA

    • Perhaps you have the previous 1.2 versions which was released prior to the ghost update. I recommend downloading the latest version from hackdex and apply the cheat. Alternatively, you can check on those cheats with CodeBreaker cheat types, these usually survive after ghost updates.

  3. Is there a Wild Pokemon Modifier code for duraludon? The one here doesn’t seem to work I’m using the original 1.14 version on pizza boy

    • I forgot to mention that this cheat has only been tested on SoulGold v1.2. I’ve just added the version label to make that clear. Since you’re using an older version, I recommend updating to v1.2, which you can get from HackDex.

      Reply
    • I don’t recommend using OpenEmu. Don’t get me wrong, OpenEmu is an excellent multi emulator application, but it doesn’t fully support cheating. In your MacOS, I recommend using mGBA to make most of these cheats.

  4. Is it possible to create a code that maintains Mega Evolution or allows you to catch a Mega Evolved Pokémon in the wild and use it continuously?
I can catch Mega Evolved Pokémon using a wild Pokémon modification code, but they revert to their normal form after a single battle.

    Reply

I have the latest version and I play on mGBA.

    Reply
    • I can confirm that this is true, the cheats can use the number of items in bag/inventory to scramble. However, it doesn’t actually create a negative effect to the item or bag other the glitchy item amount. As alternative, you can use the “All shop items cost 1” cheat.

    • Hey Murphy, welcome here. Most likely you have the outdated version of the game. I just downloaded the latest version of SoulGold, checked the CRC32 value, and it still has the A8E74768, so it matches the latest code versions that I tested. That means the current cheats should work without issues. My suggestion is to download SoulGold from its official source (HackDex) and not from anywhere else to get the most updated version of the game and then apply the cheats.

  11. I ran into an odd glitch where if you go shopping at the Poké Mart after using either the Rare Candy or Master Ball cheat as well as Shop Items cost $1, the item after disabling the cheats then exiting the shop menu and going back into the Shop Menu to buy items, the list will show as a ? For every item. Is there a possible workaround or something to rectify this?

    • May I know which GBA emulator you’re using to play SoulGold? Issues like this are often caused by multiple cheats being activated at the same time, which can cause conflicts or leave cheat effects stuck in the emulator’s memory.

Even after disabling the cheats, some effects may remain active. Try disabling or deleting all cheats, save your progress, completely restart the emulator, and then load the game again. After restarting, enable only one cheat at a time and see if the issue is fixed.

Update: It appears the SoulGold developer released another silent build update, which caused some of the current cheats to stop working even though the game version may still appear the same. I’ve now added and tested new codes for the latest build. Give them a try and let me know if they work on your end.

  12. Hey Everyone!!!

I would like to report that the max money and Poke Mart item mod does work for 1.4. But the item mod does cause a glitch where that specifiic item you chose will result it a “bag is full messgae”. Example: Unlimited master balls in bag, but you can’t get the free one from Elm.Because the game considers your bag to be full of that single item. Best work around is go to your PC and deposit as many you want to have, then delete the item from your bag entirely.

The Rare Candy cheat was tested specifically on SoulGold v1.0.6.3, so the game version you’re using is correct. • Use retroarch core – mGBA but before you do use retroarch incase , watch YouTube videos on installing retroarch… After that there is a issue were you need to memories or write down the codes you want on DESCRIPTION and CODES separately. First action to do in adding cheats is to tap you’ll see *cheat #0 N/A *, tap and enter your description and code and Tap ENABLE before existing , then tap you’ll see * cheat #1 N/A * and so on , then tap APPLY CHANGES .

    • Thanks for reporting the issue, Fistinhu. May I know which version of Pokemon SoulGold you’re using and which GBA emulator you’re playing on? I’ve provided different versions of the code depending on the SoulGold version, so using the correct one is important.

Once you share your game version and emulator, I can help you figure out which code should work for you.

        • Try this for battle points for SoulGold v1.0.6.3.

    • Can you try this on Manic Emu instead? The game developer has a list of recommended emulators, and Delta isn’t included. However, I believe some of the cheats on the list should still work on Delta.

    • I’ve already updated the codes and majority of the list should now work for 1.0.6. You may need to refresh the page or clear your browser’s cache to see the latest version of the cheats.

  48. I’m playing on MGBA but cheats keep saying “Some cheats couldn’t be added. Make sure they’re reformatted correctly”. :( I’m using the last version.

  49. The “Access PC” code freezes the game, just as soon as I press select.
It is the only code enabled.
    Game version 1.0.5
    Using mGBA emulator.
    Code type set to “autodetect”
Have also tried re-adding it as gameshark.
    Same result.

  50. On Manic EMU, SoulGold v1.0.4.5.
Tried the “cost 1 poke dollar” cheat and it didn’t work. It decreased the amounts (mints went from 7800 to 3000) but then game freezes when I go to purchase.
Also tried the “money never decreases” and it didn’t work.
Thanks for your help and all you do!

    • Can you try the codes? I’ve made an update and I believe the cheats will now work on many GBA emulators including Manic EMU. There’s a newer version of the game as well, the v1.0.6 and I also have the codes provided for that version.

  51. The Rare Candy cheat isn’t working. I’m playing on version 1.0.4.5. I copy the code and enter it—it even says “Cheats set!”—but when I go to look for the Rare Candy, I simply can’t find it anywhere: not in the PC, the bag, or the Mart. Do I need a Master Code or something like that? Also, whenever I select the cheat type “GameShark or Action Replay,” it always switches back to Codebreaker after I set the code…

    • May I know which GBA emulator you’re using? This information can help me troubleshoot the issue more accurately. Emulators handle cheat codes differently, which is one of the reasons why a cheat may work perfectly on one emulator but fail on another.

    • Yeah, there’s a newer version of the game, I’ll update the codes, stay tuned!

Update: Refresh the page for the updated cheats.

  52. Hello, none of these codes are working. I’m on delta and I’m trying to use the rare candy and item modifier in the poke mart and it’s not working! Please can you advise? Thanks!

    • Welcome back, Eloise. It’s like that you are using the latest version of the game. I’m currently working to update the codes. Stay tuned for updates. Btw, as far as I know, the author of the game does not recommend using Delta, try playing the game on Manic Emu instead.
