Run Away from Trainer’s Battle (Cheat type: GameShark/Action Replay)

How it works: Normally, you can run away from any trainer battles. But you can do so with this cheat. Apply the cheat and as the battle begin, press L + R and select RUN.

🎥 See the cheat in action, watch our video How to Obtain All 3 Starter for Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen on Youtube.

Note: Only works when you start the game.

Steps

  1. Add cheat and turn it off.
  2. Go to the bushes and wait til Prof.Oak tells you don’t go out and once you go to the lab, go pick a Pokemon and say yes this is your choice, and then when it says give it a nickname turn on the cheat and move on to the next Pokemon without answering and click on the next Pokemon and turn off the cheat keep on doing the same.

More helpful steps:
The Pokemon Fire Red, all Pokemon starters cheat. Also works for Leaf Green.

How to do it:

  1. Reset the game if used. Put the code in right away, but TURN IT OFF.
  2. When you get to the choosing part, you need to go to any Pokemon on the table. When it says you received Bulbasaur, Squirtle, etc., Turn the code on and walk to the next Pokemon. Then turn the code off; when it says received, turn it on. Then walk to the last Pokemon.
  3. Do the same for the last Pokemon. Turn the code off when getting the last Pokemon.
  4. There ya go. You got all starters!

Cheating Best Practices

  • Activate one cheat at a time
  • Turn off cheat after using
  • Use a US version FireRed ROM if possible
  • Use recommended GBA emulators, GBA4ios (iOS), My Boy (Android) and Visual Boy Advance (Windows), and RetroArch/mGBA (Mac OS)
  • Save the current game state before activating any of the listed cheats
  • After activating a cheat – Check your bag; if you notice irregularities, DON’T save the game
  • Cheats may still work even after deactivation. If that happens, save progress, close your emulator, and reopen the game
  • In some cases, some cheats do not work after enabling. You can try going in and out of any doors/entrances at least 5 times and check your PC again to see the item.

Note to Delta Emulator for iOS Users

Since its release on the Apple app store, Delta Emulator has been the best GBA emulator for iOS. We checked and tested these cheats, and they work great without any problems!

Just remember, you need the right version of the game, which is usually “FireRed Squirrels” or any FireRed English ROM with version 1.0.

There aren’t many cheats that work for the newer FireRed v1.1, so try using v1.0. Also, when you put in the cheats, choose only Codebreaker or Action Replay. Action Replay and GameShark can be interchanged. However, we found that Action Replay cheats are the best because they don’t cause as many glitches.

My Boy free version users

Unfortunately, some cheats will not work for you, specifically those with multiple-liner cheat codes. You need the paid version of the app for it to work fully.

However, there’s a simple solution to this problem you only need to enter those lines of code as a separate cheat. I created a guide explaining all the details on how to do the trick; check out How To Enable Multiple-Liner Cheat Codes on My Boy Free Version or watch this Youtube video to see the tutorial in action.

Recommendations

The FireRed Squirrels version or the FireRed V1.0 (U) is one of the most downloaded Pokemon game titles and the version that supports the listed cheat codes on this page.

However, we don’t share such files on this website; it is illegal to share rom files; it is considered piracy. Although you can see a lot of sites massively giving out these files, we strive to keep Pokemoncoders a legit resource as much as possible.

Frequently Asked Questions

How to Use Cheats in Pokemon Fire Red

Open your GBA emulator settings function, access the cheat feature, and add the cheat codes. Cheat types can be GameShark, Action Replay, or CodeBreakears. Many popular GBA emulators, including Visual Boy Advance, MyBoy, mGBA, and RetroArch, offer this feature, which is easy to use.

How to Use Cheats on Myboy Emulator

Using cheats myboy emulator

Tap on the menu icon, tap “Cheats” and tap on “New Cheat” to add a new cheat. Enter desired cheat name and the appropriate cheat code. The cheat type must be set to “Auto Detect” as MyBoy can automatically select the proper cheat type for you.

What is the reason for cheats not functioning in Pokemon FireRed?

There are multiple reasons why cheats may not work, but one of the most common issues is the ROM version. If you have FireRed V1.1, it’s possible that cheats will not function properly.

We have made an improvement to our list of codes. Luckily, and with the help of the community, we were able to discover the working Pokemon encounter code for FireRed V1.1.

How to Use Cheats on Visual Boy Advance Emulator

In your VBA cheats menu, click on “Cheats”, and select “Cheat list” to open the VBA cheating function. Choose the appropriate cheat type, and select either from GameShark or CodeBreaker. Enter cheat description and code. Finally, click “Ok” to activate the cheat.

Conclusion

The majority of these cheats have been tested by the Pokemoncoders team and are 100% compatible with the Pokemon FireRed (US) Squirrels version or FireRed V1.0. Try searching for and downloading the FireRed (US) Squirrels version if it doesn’t work.

That’s it for our entire collection of working Pokemon FireRed cheat codes for our valued readers. We’ve done our best to gather the available sets of cheats, but we know that there are certainly others out there that we missed.

  1. Hey I have Pokemon Fire Red (V1.1) and I’m using Myboy the Wild Pokemon modifier isn’t working for me is it because I don’t have the Pokemon Red (U) version

    Reply
  2. Confirmed: Codes for Pokemon Fire Red -are- working in My Boy (single line Gameshark and Code Breaker codes). BTW, children: If something works for everyone else BUT you, then maybe -you- should read a lot more, and become a lot wiser. That is all

    • If you still getting bad eggs even after pressing L+R before throwing a Pokeball, then I would suggest don’t use the cheat as it doesn’t seem compatible with your rom version.

      Reply
      • I have the squirrel version and the catch trainer pokemon code said I caught the first one then the 2 after that were bad eggs and the one I had caught turned into a bad egg in the party.

        Reply
        • Did you pressed L+R before throwing a Poke ball? If you believe you done the required steps correctly and still those bad eggs appears then the issue should be the ROM itself and I would suggest not using the cheat.

  4. I’m using GBA4iOS 2.1_go_retro and I have Pokemon Fire Red (u) squirrels and the wild Pokémon modifier does not work. I’ve tried using it with and without the master code and even with the gameshark master code as well, but the Pokémon I want doesn’t appear. Anything I’m doing wrong? Suggestions are helpful. Thank you in advance.

    • Hello Luke, you haven’t done anything wrong. It is just the GBA4iOS causing the problem. I’ve made a lot of testing and I found out that My boy and GBA4iOS gives different results with regards to cheating. If you’re using FireRed (u) Independent version the cheat will work in your on GBA4iOS.

Update: If you’re going to activate the Pokemon encounter cheats, try adding the first and second master codes and next is the Pokemon code.

  6. I’m using GBA4iOS 2.1 (with DropBox sync), with the (U) Independent ROM version of FireRed, instead of the (U) “Squirrels” version. Here’s how the, “wild Pokemon encounter modifier” cheat works for me:

You need 2 mastercodes active, instead of 1:

    1st master code = GAMESHARK:
    4D83B1BF E0F5F507
    8E883EFF 92E9660D
    B6C5368A 08BE8FF4
    90B4977C C0151DC2

2nd master code = CODE BREAKER:
    000014D1 000A
    1003DAE6 0007

—– the 2nd mastercode is the one you listed here on this article, but for me that wasn’t enough, I needed the first one that I listed as well.

After having both mastercodes active, you need the actual code for the Pokémon itself:

83007CEE XXXX <—- Replace "XXXX" with the IDs mentioned in the list.
    ———
To get Houndour for example, I would need to create 3 separate codes like this:

    1st master code = GAMESHARK:
    4D83B1BF E0F5F507
    8E883EFF 92E9660D
    B6C5368A 08BE8FF4
    90B4977C C0151DC2

2nd master code = CODE BREAKER:
    000014D1 000A
    1003DAE6 0007

3rd Pokémon code = CODE BREAKER:
    83007CEE 00E4

    Hope that helps.

    • Hi there Amon, thanks for the share. I tested this method in my GBA4iOS 2.1 but for some reason the first master returns invalid cheat error. Any idea about this?

      • hey, i had the same problem but it worked after i changed the second section of the first line of the gameshark code to E0F5F507. In essence just changing the letter O for the number “0”

        Reply
      • if you copied the code from the site, there is an error in first row : EOF5F507, change the second letter to ZERO instead of O.
Then it let me use the code, but still it didnt work in the end :(
Couldnt find the pokemon I wanted

          • Hello my name is martinelplayz and I am having a problem with the all badges cheat in Pokemon fire red. My emulator is myboy (Android app) and I can’t make it work I followed the instructions went and fought a gym leader then went into the pokemart but it didn’t work T-T

          • All badges cheat sometimes buggy and if you have the squirrels or the v1.0 FireRed rom then it should work. In my case, I have to go inside and out of the building and repeated the process several times until I get the badges.

      • I just tried inserting the codes as well, the 2nd and 3rd ones work, but the 1st one gives me an error as well. It’s because I posted the wrong Gameshark mastercode, it’s actually:

        4D83B1BF E0F5F507
        8E883EFF 92E9660D
        B6C5368A 08BE8FF4
        90B4977C C0151DC2

I would appreciate it if you could edit my post. It should work now. I’ll be waiting for your results.

PS: I also want to mention that there are some mistakes under the “Wild Pokémon modifier” section. The IDs for Gyarados and Lapras are switched, and Gyarados is misspelled.

        • Thanks for the heads up Amon, I tested them according to the information you have provided, but unfortunately it still shows a normal wild Pokemon. I actually don’t have any idea why as I’m quite sure I have the appropriate FireRed ROM for cheating, but for some reasons wild Pokemon modifier cheat won’t work in my GBA4iOS. I’m using iPhone 6 with GBA4iOS 2.1.

          Reply
          • I just tested it again and it works, sort of. Here’s an Imgur album containing a couple of screenshots: imgur.com/a/E9ImoBQ

I want to add more information about the ROM that I use. It’s by “Independent”, it’s the (U) version, so the USA version. The ROM version is 1.1, not 1.0. I’m also using an iPhone 6S with GBA4iOS 2.1. It’s jailbroken, but that shouldn’t change anything with the cheats.

I also want to add that this method is unusable for me, as it doesn’t allow me to go into my bag to use pokéballs. I’ve tried it like 15 times and it keeps giving me a black screen. This could just be me, that’s why I asked if you could test it.

          • Whoa! that’s so amazing Amon. It works now! I downloaded Fire Red (U) Independent from Emuparadise, tested the cheat and it works like a charm. But one thing bugged me is the walk through walls cheat, it won’t work in this rom version or maybe it needs a master code? I gotta test more of these codes.

      • Excuse me, but you guys need go revise your whole Pokemon modifier DESPERATELY. There master codes in these comments are all right, but your Pokemon codes are not right! Castform and Torchic literally have the exact same number! I suggest using the nation Pokemon ID. Torchic’s national ID is 255, for example. Please I hope you guys read this and correct your Pokemon numbers as quickly as possible so as to not get any more errors. Come on, guys, the hardest part (master codes) have been fixed! You’re almost there!

    • Hey man, I used your method as well and mine works, however, when I go to my bag to use a poke ball or any item for that matter, my screen goes black and either restarts itself or remains black. Do you have any idea as to why?

      Reply
      • Hey Aaron, make sure to disable cheats after use. In most cases, when cheats remained enabled even when not being used causes random glitches. Try saving the state, next exit to your emulator and load the state. Hope this helps.

    • You have to save the game before teaching any one Pokemon the attack. Then trade the Pokemon with a friend. Then load it back to the save and do the same. After all of the Pokemon have learnt the attack, trade them back from your friend.

    • Hello mate, thanks for dropping here. First off, if you can’t make the steal trainer’s Pokemon cheat to work then it might be your rom version don’t support it, did you pressed L+R before throwing the Pokeball?. The all pokeball is a useless cheat as it can ruin your TM case, I’m thinking of removing it in the list.

If you’re planning to use cheats you need a V1.0 roms, sad to say you can’t easily find this version these days unless you have a friend who has it. Problem is, after I use the cheat once, the next time it’s used it keeps leveling my Pokemon without stopping, even after I deactivate it. Also, my Pokemon are getting one hit ko’d after using the cheat. Am I doing something wrong? I have the squirrels version downloaded and I’m using My Gba emulator on Android.

    • The cheat title is a little misleading, it doesn’t actually give ♾Xp, it removes the stop point from bar movement animations, which is why you should only activate it when it tells you how much xp you gained and deactivate it when it says your Pokemon has reached the desired level.

So if you want a random encounter enter it like: first line first code. second line second code. Then, third line third code with the pokemon you want.

        • May I know the version of your FireRed rom? Most cheat codes will work only for V1.0. Or maybe GBA4iOS just don’t support the codes.

          Reply
      • Random glitches could happen such as bad egg or freezes when using cheats. To avoid such situations be sure to limit the number of enabled cheats. As much as possible activate maximum of two cheats at once when the cheat has a master code. Also, be sure to disable a cheat after use. Lastly, don’t save your game progress when you notice problems.

    • It’s because you have the FireRed v1.1, the cheat codes above and most of Pokemon GBA game cheats will work only for V1.0. Try checking out other sources such as reddit.

      • Made a typo sorry, I don’t have v1.1, but v1.0, I tried every single code but they still don’t work. I put them in, did the regular drill of pushing select and L or start and R etc, but none work, I’m sure your cheats would work, but is there any reason why it doesn’t work for me?

    • We have the cheat for TM/HM, check it again. Also, I’m considering adding the cheats for those items as your request so stay tuned.

Update: Done adding the requested cheats, kindly check it again.

      • Your emulator is perfectly but you need V1.0 FireRed rom for it to work, sorry about that. But if there’s anything I can help just let me know.

    • If you’re playing a ROM hack and use wild Pokemon modifier cheat, most likely it will show different Pokemon. The cheats above are made originally for FireRed game but can also work for any FireRed based ROM hacks but expect different results.

    • Hey Toby, there’s no way we can tell if the cheats are v1/v2 or v3 unless there’s an app for MAC OS that can detect a type of cheat or you personally know the format of those codes. As a Mac OS user like you, that’s so frustrating. The best solution is to switch to Bluestacks and install My Boy for Android. But, here’s another problem Bluestacks don’t support El Capitan and below versions, I don’t feel installing the buggy High Sierra. Gladly, I have Windows PC that I can install Bluestacks and I also play these games on my Samsung phone as well.

  24. I posted this comment on Pokemon Coder’s YouTube video for those also needing help with the codes I am about to refer to.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U9urfPSnrwQ&index=4&list=PLMpqbCcLGXqrCMy6QQlAvQzwZMZAQa3G4

This is a cheat, in a way, for those wanting mobility in taking their game anywhere. If you know the location of the save file that your Emulator creates, you can transfer the save file from your PC to your phone, and back again. I just did this testing all these codes (Have All Pokeballs, Rare Candy, Wild Pokemon Encounter, Walk Through Walls, TM & HM) on my PC.

VisualBoy for PC and MyBoy for Android use the same file extension for their save game file: “.sav” So, if you’re having trouble inputting a code in MyBoy, input it in VisualBoy on PC, AFTER transferring the save file to your computer’s Emulator’s location. VisualBoy allows you to set the save location, while MyBoy creates its own save folder on your phone titled “save” under the App’s folder.

I know this may be confusing for some, or all. I’ll see about creating a video/learning how to create a video, to show everyone. So, this allow allows for mobility of your game by transferring to your phone, where VisualBoy allows play on your PC with amazing graphics/picture quality.

    Reply
    • Yes this is true and totally make sense, thanks for the share pal. I’ve done this already about a year ago, I moved my .sav file from OpenEmu to PC and from my PC to MyBoy. You only need the save file when moving to other platform. One thing is very important is that you must have the v1.0 rom to make these cheats fully work.

        • Sometimes you don’t need to input master code to get codes to work just the regular basic codes that it’s required or is being asked to input. Items, pokemon modifier, pokemon level, nature of pokemon, and legendary encounters do require the master code. Also keep in mind that some codes activated simultaneously will and can make your game crash to just delete or disable a few to enable others no more than two running at the same time is recommended.

      • So I tried to use the nature modifier cheat and when I go into the grass to try to catch a Pokémon, the game freezes right as the encounter starts. I made sure to enter the code correctly, with the right master code, but it doesn’t work. I once turned on the cheat in a wild encounter to see what happens, and when the game finally lets me find a Pokémon, it’s always the ????????? Pokémon (aka Blank, aka the target with a question mark on it) at levels 0 and 4. The wild Pokémon modifier cheat works though, so it’s not a problem with all cheats I tried using. I’m playing on the John GBA Lite emulator with a Fire Red rom that’s called

        1695 – Pokemon Fire Red (U)(Independent).gba

I downloaded it from Loveroms.com. Hope all this information helps.
