Cheating Best Practices

  • Activate one cheat at a time
  • Turn off cheat after using
  • Use a US version FireRed ROM if possible
  • Use recommended GBA emulators, GBA4ios (iOS), My Boy (Android) and Visual Boy Advance (Windows), and RetroArch/mGBA (Mac OS)
  • Save the current game state before activating any of the listed cheats
  • After activating a cheat – Check your bag; if you notice irregularities, DON’T save the game
  • Cheats may still work even after deactivation. If that happens, save progress, close your emulator, and reopen the game
  • In some cases, some cheats do not work after enabling. You can try going in and out of any doors/entrances at least 5 times and check your PC again to see the item.

Note to GBA4iOS Users

A commenter with the nickname Problem Solver just posted some very useful information regarding fixes and other information you need to know if you are using GBA4iOS. Read carefully.

Hey everybody, so this is just a brief introduction and solution to a variety of the glitches you may encounter while using the codes and how to fix them to enhance your gameplay.

If you are using GBA4IOS V2.1 or any other emulator that enables the codes to work (Please keep in mind that several versions of the emulators you are using such as Myboy, JohnGBA, or VBA emulator may be outdated versions so not all codes may register depending on what emulator you are using.

Also, versions of the games you have downloaded do not register all of the codes for them to work. It is recommended you use versions 1.0 squirrels version of fire red or US version. If you’re having difficulty with a code that won’t work, drop a comment, and I’ll help you out any way I can.)

1.) Pokémon Modifier and encounter code. (Only input the 2nd master code for GBA4IOS users then input the encounter code afterward if you input them in any other sequence they won’t work!!!) So when using this code, of course, you will be able to run into any Pokémon as long as you type in the code and encounter code correctly. While using this code sometimes the Pokémon you want to catch may result in 1 hit KO’ing your Pokémon.

To fix this error simply delete the code or disable it, go to a Pokémon center restore your Pokémon by talking to the person behind the counter and then enter a battle with any wild Pokémon the glitch should be gone if the problem persists still delete the code and reinput it again. If the Pokémon appear like a huge question mark with the name “??????” It means the encounter code is wrong, double check just to be safe.

Also, as a side note if the Pokémon you caught using this code when evolving stays on the message “…?” Simply release it from your PC and catch it again recommended you use the Experience code to get back to the level you were at.

2.) Infinite Exp code. Using this code sometimes causes your Pokémon to keep leveling up even after you’ve disabled the code from the menu. The reason this occurs is due to a slight error in the registering of the code after you used it.

For example, if you have the code enabled and you save the game, then return to it, later on, to play again even after you disabled the code. The game registers the code as still active resulting in endless level ups to fix this just delete the code wait for the level up of the Pokémon to finish and then save and restart your game and reinput the code all over again to stop the endless increase in level.

3.) Catching and stealing Pokémon from trainers. It is recommended you save before using this code so that if your game becomes corrupt or freezes, you have a point of save origin to refer back to. Now then this glitch typically occurs after you catch a trainers Pokémon watch the video that’s posted first to know how to use the code. Now, to solve this issue, unfortunately, there is no way to get around the bad eggs when you catch a trainers Pokémon.

If caught correctly, the bad egg will not show, but in case it does simply delete the code and then restart your game from your save point. Do not save the game if a bad egg appears or it will ruin your game completely. Definitely check your PC as well after you’ve caught the trainers Pokémon because sometimes the bad eggs may not show up in your Pokémon line up but maybe in the PC box for some odd reason.

4.) Pokémon level modifier. So there really isn’t a huge variety of problems with this code, but I recently ran into one which is that when using the code sometimes when you go back to edit the code lets say from Lv 30 to encounter a Pokémon at lv 60 it will keep showing Pokémon at Lv 30.

When you encounter that error, it’s because the game registered the code Lv 30 permanently simply delete the code and reinput it to encounter whatever Level of Pokémon you are searching for.

Got any other glitches that I didn’t cover on here? Drop a comment below, and I’ll help you out as much as I can. Good luck everyone, hope this answers some questions you all might be having or some issues you all may be experiencing.

My Boy free version users

Unfortunately, some cheats will not work for you, specifically those with multiple-liner cheat codes. You need the paid version of the app for it to work fully.

However, there’s a simple solution to this problem you only need to enter those lines of code as a separate cheat. I created a guide explaining all the details on how to do the trick; check out How To Enable Multiple-Liner Cheat Codes on My Boy Free Version or watch this Youtube video to see the tutorial in action.

The FireRed Squirrels version or the FireRed V1.0 (U) is one of the most downloaded Pokemon game titles and the version that supports the listed cheat codes on this page.

However, we don’t share such files on this website; it is illegal to share rom files; it is considered piracy. Although you can see a lot of sites massively giving out these files, we strive to keep Pokemoncoders a legit resource as much as possible.

Is there a new code list that will make it work. What I am trying to do is get the code allows me to catch any Pokémon that I want.

        Reply
        • Sometimes you don’t need to input master code to get codes to work just the regular basic codes that it’s required or is being asked to input. Items, pokemon modifier, pokemon level, nature of pokemon, and legendary encounters do require the master code. Also keep in mind that some codes activated simultaneously will and can make your game crash to just delete or disable a few to enable others no more than two running at the same time is recommended.

          • Mate, for some reasons, activating shiny cheat is a bit tricky. Some ROMs do not accept the cheat. Please use the ROM I’m using ;D

      • So I tried to use the nature modifier cheat and when I go into the grass to try to catch a Pokémon, the game freezes right as the encounter starts. I made sure to enter the code correctly, with the right master code, but it doesn’t work. I once turned on the cheat in a wild encounter to see what happens, and when the game finally lets me find a Pokémon, it’s always the ????????? Pokémon (aka Blank, aka the target with a question mark on it) at levels 0 and 4. The wild Pokémon modifier cheat works though, so it’s not a problem with all cheats I tried using. I’m playing on the John GBA Lite emulator with a Fire Red rom that’s called

        1695 – Pokemon Fire Red (U)(Independent).gba

I downloaded it from Loveroms.com. Hope all this information helps.

        • You may be entered the correct codes but it seems like you have other codes enabled besides the Nature Modifier. To fix this, turn off all other cheats except the nature code. After that, save progress and restart the game (not reset).
