Run Away from Trainer’s Battle (Cheat type: GameShark/Action Replay)

How it works: Normally, you can run away from any trainer battles. But you can do so with this cheat. Apply the cheat and as the battle begin, press L + R and select RUN.

🎥 See the cheat in action, watch our video How to Obtain All 3 Starter for Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen on Youtube.

Note: Only works when you start the game.

Steps

  1. Add cheat and turn it off.
  2. Go to the bushes and wait til Prof.Oak tells you don’t go out and once you go to the lab, go pick a Pokemon and say yes this is your choice, and then when it says give it a nickname turn on the cheat and move on to the next Pokemon without answering and click on the next Pokemon and turn off the cheat keep on doing the same.

More helpful steps:
The Pokemon Fire Red, all Pokemon starters cheat. Also works for Leaf Green.

How to do it:

  1. Reset the game if used. Put the code in right away, but TURN IT OFF.
  2. When you get to the choosing part, you need to go to any Pokemon on the table. When it says you received Bulbasaur, Squirtle, etc., Turn the code on and walk to the next Pokemon. Then turn the code off; when it says received, turn it on. Then walk to the last Pokemon.
  3. Do the same for the last Pokemon. Turn the code off when getting the last Pokemon.
  4. There ya go. You got all starters!

Cheating Best Practices

  • Activate one cheat at a time
  • Turn off cheat after using
  • Use a US version FireRed ROM if possible
  • Use recommended GBA emulators, GBA4ios (iOS), My Boy (Android) and Visual Boy Advance (Windows), and RetroArch/mGBA (Mac OS)
  • Save the current game state before activating any of the listed cheats
  • After activating a cheat – Check your bag; if you notice irregularities, DON’T save the game
  • Cheats may still work even after deactivation. If that happens, save progress, close your emulator, and reopen the game
  • In some cases, some cheats do not work after enabling. You can try going in and out of any doors/entrances at least 5 times and check your PC again to see the item.

Popularly Used Pokemon Fire Red Cheats

  • Walkthrough walls (Ghost cheat)
  • Shiny Pokemon
  • Rare Candy Cheat
  • Max Stats
  • Items cost only $1
  • TM & HM Items
  • Steal the opponent’s pokemon
  • Easily Catch a Pokemon
  • Money Cheat (Check Pokemart)
  • Infinite EXP
  • Wild Pokemon Modifier
  • Masterball Cheat
  • Legendary Pokemon Encounter

Listed are the popularly used Pokemon FireRed cheats. However, we don’t recommend pairing or mixing the cheats with each other as this can cause serious issues in your game.

Though the pairing of cheats can work, only on selected cheats. You are welcome to do your own experiment, but make sure to save progress before proceeding.

Note to Delta Emulator for iOS Users

Since its release on the Apple app store, Delta Emulator has been the best GBA emulator for iOS. We checked and tested these cheats, and they work great without any problems!

Just remember, you need the right version of the game, which is usually “FireRed Squirrels” or any FireRed English ROM with version 1.0.

There aren’t many cheats that work for the newer FireRed v1.1, so try using v1.0. Also, when you put in the cheats, choose only Codebreaker or Action Replay. Action Replay and GameShark can be interchanged. However, we found that Action Replay cheats are the best because they don’t cause as many glitches.

My Boy free version users

Unfortunately, some cheats will not work for you, specifically those with multiple-liner cheat codes. You need the paid version of the app for it to work fully.

However, there’s a simple solution to this problem you only need to enter those lines of code as a separate cheat. I created a guide explaining all the details on how to do the trick; check out How To Enable Multiple-Liner Cheat Codes on My Boy Free Version or watch this Youtube video to see the tutorial in action.

Recommendations

The FireRed Squirrels version or the FireRed V1.0 (U) is one of the most downloaded Pokemon game titles and the version that supports the listed cheat codes on this page.

However, we don’t share such files on this website; it is illegal to share rom files; it is considered piracy. Although you can see a lot of sites massively giving out these files, we strive to keep Pokemoncoders a legit resource as much as possible.

Frequently Asked Questions

How to Use Cheats in Pokemon Fire Red

Open your GBA emulator settings function, access the cheat feature, and add the cheat codes. Cheat types can be GameShark, Action Replay, or CodeBreakears. Many popular GBA emulators, including Visual Boy Advance, MyBoy, mGBA, and RetroArch, offer this feature, which is easy to use.

How to Use Cheats on Myboy Emulator

Using cheats myboy emulator

Tap on the menu icon, tap “Cheats” and tap on “New Cheat” to add a new cheat. Enter desired cheat name and the appropriate cheat code. The cheat type must be set to “Auto Detect” as MyBoy can automatically select the proper cheat type for you.

What is the reason for cheats not functioning in Pokemon FireRed?

There are multiple reasons why cheats may not work, but one of the most common issues is the ROM version. If you have FireRed V1.1, it’s possible that cheats will not function properly.

We have made an improvement to our list of codes. Luckily, and with the help of the community, we were able to discover the working Pokemon encounter code for FireRed V1.1.

How to Use Cheats on Visual Boy Advance Emulator

In your VBA cheats menu, click on “Cheats”, and select “Cheat list” to open the VBA cheating function. Choose the appropriate cheat type, and select either from GameShark or CodeBreaker. Enter cheat description and code. Finally, click “Ok” to activate the cheat.

Conclusion

The majority of these cheats have been tested by the Pokemoncoders team and are 100% compatible with the Pokemon FireRed (US) Squirrels version or FireRed V1.0. Try searching for and downloading the FireRed (US) Squirrels version if it doesn’t work.

That’s it for our entire collection of working Pokemon FireRed cheat codes for our valued readers. We’ve done our best to gather the available sets of cheats, but we know that there are certainly others out there that we missed.

  1. I noticed that the wild pokemon cheats modifier does not work on retroarch, I have not tried out the other ones yet so it might just be for that cheat or it is that all cheats just don’t work on retroarch, also I am using it on hakchi and I am also playing it on the snes classic.

    • Hello Dman, welcome! Some cheats do work on RetroArch, but during my testing I also noticed that certain cheats fail to work properly. If you mainly want to use cheats, I recommend using VBA or mGBA instead, as they tend to have better cheat compatibility.

  3. So I was messing around one night and decided to use the encounter legendary pokemon cheat with a level cheat (i used mewtwo, lvl 90) but every time I got an encounter my game crashed- while also crashing the whole emulator. I realized it was because I typed in the level cheat wrong. I would restart the emulator, disable all cheats, load my save, and enable them again (not the incorrect level one), otherwise I would crash on load, and finally grab a lvl 2 mewtwo :pp using firered v1.0 US english, on Myboy! android

  9. I’m a little confused on the wild encounter for the 1.1 version of Fire Red, I know it’s says “To fix the issue and to encounter another Pokemon of your choice, you have to delete all the cheats, save game progress, exit the game, and reopen the game again” my question is if I were to reopen the game again and put whatever Pokemon I want to encounter do I have to like reset the whole thing again or does it go back to normal and I can just continue catching Pokemon that I want to catch specifically.
P.S: I am slightly new to this 1.0 and 1.1 update, I haven’t played Pokemon fire red and leaf green in quite a while now.

    • Hi there, Alexander, Welcome! No worries, that’s a very good question, especially if you’re new to using cheats on FireRed.

Here’s how it works in simple terms: After you delete all cheats, save your game, close the emulator, and reopen it, your game will return to normal. That means wild encounters will go back to default (random Pokemon).

If you want to catch another specific Pokemon, you can just enter a new Wild Pokemon modifier cheat again. You don’t need to reset your whole game. Just repeat the process:

      1. Activate the cheat for the Pokemon you want
      2. Encounter and catch it
      3. Disable or delete the cheat after

If you notice the same Pokemon keep appearing or something feels off, just do the refresh steps again (disable cheats -> save -> restart emulator). Take it slow and use one cheat at a time to avoid issues. Hope my answer helps.

  12. Hello, I’ve been trying to use the masterball codes and it never works for me, what am I doing wrong? i use version 1.0 and I applied the mastercode too. My emulator is mGBA on pc and it even recognizes the cheat but in-game even post reset it doesn’t work. Any ideas?

    Reply
    • Hey Oliver, welcome! There are two ways to get a Master Ball using cheats. The first is by receiving it from the PC, and the second is by buying the first item in the Poke Mart buy list. Just choose the method that works best for you.

mGBA handles cheats quite well, especially if you’re using version 1.0 of the game. When adding the code, I recommend selecting “Autodetect” in the code type option. In my experience with mGBA, choosing the other cheat types sometimes causes the cheat to fail, though I’m not exactly sure why.

    • Hello Eze, welcome to Pokemoncoders! I’m really glad to hear that the cheats are working for you and you find our website useful. Just a friendly reminder that overusing cheats can sometimes cause issues. After using several cheats, I recommend clearing your emulator’s cheat settings by disabling or deleting all cheats and then restarting the emulator. This helps prevent future glitches and keeps your game running smoothly. Have fun!

    • Hey Mario, welcome to Pokemoncoders. Can you clarify your question? You have used Pokemon Crystal cheats for these FireRed cheats and they worked perfectly? How’s that possible? To make these work, you need to have the English of FireRed, with version 1.0 or 1.1. Can you confirm if you’re playing a Pokemon FireRed game?

      Reply
  22. Can confirm that the “improved” wild Pokémon modifier doesn’t work except for Pokémon and level. Everything else doesn’t work. Tested on 1.0 multiple times with only the only cheats input and active being the master code (000014D1000A1003DAE60007) and WPM Pikachu (83007CEE0019) lvl 5 (33007CF00005) IVs 31 (33007CF1001F) gender male (33007CF20002) nature Naughty (33007CF3000D). The first encounter with Pikachu is consistently female lvl 5 IV 20-31 nature random. Subsequent Pikachus can be either male or female IV 20-31 nature random. Tested again and again. After saving with both cheats disabled, then restarting emulator, enabling, and starting the encounter; starting a new game with both cheats deleted and then added but disabled before saving then restarting emulator, enabled, and starting the encounter; starting a new game and only added the two cheats and enabled them before the encounter without saving. Only confirmed variable is the desired Pokémon, only unverified variable is the IV, consistently incorrect variables are gender and nature. Did a lot of testing and this cheat is unreliable.

    Reply
  23. I can guarantee that the “improved” wild Pokémon modifier for version 1.0 does not work. It works for level and gender, but I can’t confirm its IV effectiveness and can confidently confirm it has no effect on the nature of the Pokémon. No hate, just wanted to share the facts.

    • For more information, I have only added/enabled two cheats: the WPM master code and WPM for Pikachu level 5 IVs 31 gender male nature naughty

Desired Pokémon and level are the only confirmed variables. IVs are the only variable that is seemingly trustworthy but unverified. Gender and nature are consistently random.

  24. the lightball cheat for a pikachu seems to be bugged i get bad eggs and it crashes my game when i go to my pc boxes so i had to restart over after 7 hours hof gameplay im still trying to get this light ball for my game safely

    Reply
    • Hello Antonio, welcome here. I’m really sorry that happened, losing progress after that many hours is frustrating.

What you experienced (bad eggs, PC crashes) is a classic sign of cheat conflicts, especially with item cheats like Light Ball. This usually happens when:

      • Multiple cheats were enabled at the same time, or
      • A cheat stayed active even after being turned off.

Here’s the safest way to proceed going forward:

      1. Disable and delete all cheats in your emulator.
      2. Save your game using in-game saving (not save states).
      3. Completely close and restart the emulator to clear leftover cheat effects.
      4. Reopen the game and enable only the Light Ball cheat by itself.
      5. Get the item (via PC or Poké Mart, depending on the cheat), then immediately turn the cheat off.
      6. Save again and restart the emulator one more time.

Item cheats are especially sensitive and even other cheats, so never mix them with other cheats. If you follow the steps above, you should be able to obtain the Light Ball safely without triggering bad eggs again. Hope my answer helps.

  25. i tried the new Pokémon encounter cheat for version 1.0 and it doesn’t seem to be working as described.. i followed the instructions and i do get the right Pokémon, gender and LVL correct, which is great. but the last line on the cheat code for the nature doesn’t seem to work at all( not sure about IV’s either?) ive tried reloading the game and still randomizes the nature.

not sure if any of this matters but I’m using the my boy gba Emulator(paid for) on android, and using a 1.0 version rom with no hacks,

    Reply
    • Hello Derek, welcome to Pokemoncoders. Thank you for sharing these details, they really help me troubleshoot the issue more accurately. Cheats can be quite sensitive, especially if other cheats were used before. Simply reloading the game is often not enough to clear previous cheat effects in the emulator. I recommend deleting all cheats from your emulator, then saving your game using the in-game save and completely closing the emulator.

After that, reopen the emulator, load FireRed again, and reapply the cheat. Make sure no other cheats are enabled, only the Pokemon encounter cheat. This usually resolves the issue. Let me know how it goes 👍

    • Hey Scooter, welcome here! Yes, I’m actually more active answering questions here than on our social media pages.

To answer your question, I honestly don’t recommend playing on web-based platforms. While they may be convenient, they lack many important features especially proper cheat support and stability. For the best experience, I strongly suggest using an emulator instead.

Let me know which device you’re using to play FireRed (PC, Android, or iOS), and I’ll be happy to recommend the best emulator for you.

Make sure you select the correct code for your version, then activate the Pokemon encounter cheat. Once added, go to the wild to trigger the encounter. Also, make sure to add the master code provided first before the main cheat. Let me know if it works for you.

    • Welcome here PokeLover31, I believe that’s because the 8 badges cheat can trigger certain game events, and one of the side effects is being sent to the Safari Zone. This is a common glitch with that code. I don’t recommend using the 8 badges cheat unless you saved your game before activating it. If you still want to try it, make sure to disable the cheat right after it activates and avoid pairing it with other cheats. Hope this helps.

The code on here is originally by CodeJunkies and most likely only has a chance of working with the Anti-DMA code. My code uses the game’s pointer and should work regardless.

    • Hello Moose, welcome to Pokemoncoders! Thanks for sharing those details—they’re really helpful for troubleshooting. It looks like you’re using the Wild Pokemon Modifier for v1.0, but since you mentioned your game is v1.1, you’ll need to use the code listed under “Wild Pokemon Modifier (For FireRed V1.1)“. Also, you don’t need the master code and DMA for the item modifier cheat—just use the master code for the Wild Pokemon Modifier along with the specific Pokemon code. So, in your case, the correct cheat code would be (Make sure the are added to the correct cheat type);

      Master code (Action Replay)
      4D83B1BF E0F5F507
      8E883EFF 92E9660D

I am trying to use the Wild Pokemon Modifier for FireRed (v1.1). I am only using the Master Code and the Pokemon I want to catch (Dragonite, literally the only cheat I will use) on MyBoy Android paid version. The pokemon appears however, every time I try I get the “Bad Egg” problem and when I actually try and throw a PokeBall to catch it, the game crashes. Is there something I’m missing? Is there a setting I need to turn on/off?

    • Hey John, welcome here. You may need to restart your emulator with all cheats disabled. It seems your emulator is still detecting previously used cheats and keeping them active even after being disabled. This happens often with many emulators, and a restart usually fixes it.

GameShark works by modifying game memory in real time, but compatibility depends on:

      • Game version (e.g. FireRed v1.0 vs v1.1)
      • GameShark model (some older models have limitations)
      • Accurate codes (wrong codes may crash the game or corrupt saves)

      Hope this answers your question.

I’m trying to get Raikou wild encounter to avoid the mindless grinding to find him. I tried both 1.0 and 1.1 master codes, they either do nothing (normal wild encounters) or are invalid (emulator says it’s not a valid code. Trying to split up also doesn’t work, it only recognizes the second half, it says “invalid code” for 000014D1). I also tried some GameShark codes from another site and they also didn’t work (either wild encounters get a black screen with normal sounds but no response) or freeze the game when I enter the tall grass.
I’m using JohnGBA full on android. Any tips to make it work or is it bugged because it’s a romhack?

    • one way to do that is changing the settings in the rom with cheat codes or directly:

in fire red 1.0 the Evolution stuff is on this raw type address
      0825A5DC
this address show the data of pokemon ID 0

      offset 0x0 = Evolution Methode
      Values are:
      0004 = Level Up
      0005 = Trade
      0007 = Item

      offset 0x4 = Evolution Argument
if you use Level Up then enter the level here
if you use Trade then set 0
if you use an item to evolve then enter a item ID what can evolve pokemon (Waterstone for example)

      offset 0x8 Evolution Species
here you can enter in which pokemon your target pokemon evolve

ok how to do this now.
in your example you have Haunta and you want to change the evolution data from trade to level up for example:

      default data on Haunta:
      offset 0x0 = 0005 (trade)
      offset 0x2 = 0000
      offset 0x4 = 005E (Gengar)

new data on Hauta should be:
      offset 0x0 = 0004 (level up)
offset 0x2 = 0020 (level 32 example) (you can choose any level you want)
      offset 0x4 = 005E (Gengar)

the class size for one pokemon is 0x28 (in Hex)
this means if you want to edit Hauta’s evolution data then you have to use his Pokemon ID number (0x5D) (in hex) to jump to his address.
      means 5D * 28 = E88
      0825A5DC + E88 = 0825B464

      0825B464+0 = 0825B464 = Offset 0
      0825B464+2 = 0825B466 = Offset 2
      0825B464+4 = 0825B468 = Offset 4

if you want to make a raw cheat code (this is not a code breaker) then you can do this now.

      0825B464 0004
      0825B466 0020
      0825B468 005E

    • Hi Arnob, just a heads-up — FireRed has two versions: v1.0 and v1.1. Most cheats are for v1.0, while v1.1 has fewer working cheats available.

If a cheat isn’t working, double-check your game version. For v1.1, make sure you’re using cheats specifically labeled for that version. If you have v1.0 (or the popular Squirrels version), most cheats labeled for v1.0 or no label at all should work without issue.

Also, make sure you’re adding the cheat under the correct cheat type (e.g., CodeBreaker, or Action Replay/GameShark). If you’re using John GBA Lite, cheats should work smoothly as long as they’re entered correctly.

Hope this helps, feel free to ask if you run into any more issues!

    • Hey Phoenix, if you could provide more details about your issue, I might be able to help you better.

The Wild Pokemon Modifier cheat has two versions — one for v1.0 and one for v1.1. Make sure you’re using the cheat that matches your game version. Additionally, ensure you’ve added the cheat under the correct cheat type (e.g., CodeBreaker or Action Replay), as using the wrong type can prevent the cheat from working properly.

Let me know what version and emulator you’re using, and I’ll do my best to guide you from there!

    • I believe other cheats might be enabled alongside the infinite money cheat, which likely caused the glitch resulting in a Bad Egg. Here’s what I suggest:

      1. Deposit the Bad Egg into a PC box.
      2. Turn off all cheats except for the infinite money cheat.
      3. Check if the infinite money cheat works — if it does, turn it off too.
      4. Save your game using the in-game save option (not save states).
      5. Exit your game and restart your emulator to clear any cheat effects.
      6. Reopen your game, that’s it!

This should help reset things and prevent further glitches while keeping the inf money effect. Hope this helps.

          • A black screen usually happens when your emulator struggles to handle changes caused by enabled cheats. To avoid this, it’s best to activate only one cheat at a time. If you’re experiencing this issue, try exiting the game, restarting your emulator, and reopening the game to reset any applied settings and cheats. Let me know if this helps.

    • It’s hard to tell unless the game’s file name specifies the version. Try using the cheats for V1.0 first. If they don’t work, switch to the V1.1 codes. We don’t have as many cheats for V1.1, but the ones available are definitely useful.

    • Hey Migz, I tested the cheat you shared, and I can confirm that it works perfectly on FireRed v1.1 and indeed no need for master code. Thanks for sharing! I have added the cheat above with your credits.

    • Hi there, Berta33. If the Infinite Rare Candy and One-Hit KO cheats worked for you, then the Wild Pokémon Modifier should also work. Keep in mind that the Wild Pokemon Modifier cheat for V1.0 is a Code Breaker type cheat, and the master code must be added as well.

    • Hi Damien, I’m sure that the shiny cheat does work. Unless you have FireRed V1.1 (I recommend using FireRed V1.0 or Squirrels’ version) or a FireRed-based ROM hack game that doesn’t work on the shiny cheat.

    • Hi James, I apologize, but we don’t share ROM files here as it’s illegal to distribute such files. However, you may be able to find them elsewhere online. Thank you for your understanding!

    • Unfortunately, there’s no way to change the nature of an existing Pokemon or modify the nature of a Pokemon obtained using the shiny cheat. However, you can use the improved version of the Wild Pokemon Modifier cheat for FireRed V1.0 to set the nature. gender, and level of wild Pokemon before catching them.

    I’m using myboy full version.

Also, Shiny pokemon (1st code) works but any pokemon caught fail to apear in your part or the PC.
Alternate cod works, but you’ll have to change the pokemons name.

Even then, only the HM appears, and all the TMs are gone. Has anyone else experienced the same issue? I’m using Pizza Boy Pro and MyBoy, and both crash whenever I open the TM Case. The cheats I’m using are:

    Steal other Pokémon
    Rare candy in Pokémart
    All Pokémart items only $1
    Infinite PP
    Infinite money
    Pokémon level modifier
    Easily catch Pokémon

    • Hey Christian, is this your first time applying cheats to your FireRed game? First off, make sure the cheat is added to its correct cheat type, and if a cheat requires a master code, make sure it is also added. Additionally, if you have FireRed v1.1, then most likely only a few of these cheats will work for you. I suggest looking for V1.0 or the squirrel’s version of FireRed.

I have multiple cheats on so i’m not sure what cheat it was, the newest cheats I put were the shiny codes and badges codes (both didn’t work). I haven’t even reached the safari place either.

  69. I’ve been playing XONE, Pokemon FireRed v1.1, Codebreaker for a few days now. This is my first time playing with an emulator so I know I have a lot to learn still.

I got the cheats for infinite TMs and Items working, but I’m having trouble with the cheats for the Wild Pokemon Encounters. I’ve double checked everything multiple times, used the PokeDex and Pokecoders ID codes, but nothing is working even though it seems everything is inputted corrrectly. The exact sequences I have saved are listed below.

I’m trying to get an Eevee – I don’t care if it’s modified or not, but if the modified works then Female, Lvl 10, Jolly Nature. I’ll move on to the rest of my list once I have Eevee’s code figured out.

I’ve tried the original V1.1 cheat (that’s the cheat labeled original) and it has a tendency to freeze the game after I beat the opposing Pokemon. I’ve also tried the V1.1 modified cheat – it doesn’t seem to affect the game, it just fails to spawn in Eevee.

    Pokemon Encounter Master:

    000014D1 000A

    1003DAE6 0007

    Eevee Encounter Original:

    83007CEE 0085

    Eevee Encounter Modified:

    83007CEE 0085

    33007CF0 000A

    33007CF1 001F

    33007CF2 0001

    33007CF3 0017

My process is to double check both the master code and the version code are inputted correctly, make sure no other cheats are also turned on, turn the Encounter codes on, find some tall grass and trigger an encounter. Every time, the Pokemon is one native to the route and not an Eevee.

I don’t understand what I’m doing wrong. I’ve checked the codes multiple times, they seem to match with the article‘s instructions, and other players have gotten them to work, so I’m sure the problem lies with me but I can’t figure out where. It’s been frustrating. I paid to use cheats so I don’t want to quit playing, but this was the main reason for me paying for the cheats and is my favorite way to play.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    • That’s odd. Are you playing a ROM hack? After using the shiny cheat, disable or completely remove the cheat from your emulator. Everything should return to normal, and hopefully, those Pokemon that are not obeying will start to obey as well.

    • Hello, Jacob! It’s possible that there are additional cheats enabled in your emulator, which may have caused the game program to become confused and resulted in a black screen. As I always advise my readers, it’s best to enable only one cheat at a time and promptly disable them once they are no longer needed.

    • Thanks for coming here, Antonio. First, determine the version of your FireRed rom. If it is a V1.0 or the squirrels, use the cheat
      Master code (Code breaker)
      000014D1 000A
      1003DAE6 0007

      Gengar cheat code (Code breaker)
      83007CEE 005E

Or if you have v1.1, then use the cheat code
MASTER CODE 1 (Add first in a separate cheat as Action Replay)
      3AF85ACA C4D18CEC
      8E883EFF 92E9660D

MASTER CODE 2 (Add also this in a separate cheat as Action Replay)

      8E883EFF 92E9660D
      B6C5368A 08BE8FF4
      90B4977C C0151DC2

      Gengar cheat code (Code breaker)
