The Fire Starters
When you choose to become a Fire-type Gym Leader specialist, you can choose from three starters. This is the only time you can get any of these Pokemon. They’re not available to catch in the game, so choose wisely.
You have the three fire starters as Growlithe, Magby, and Vulpix. They will evolve, so you also get additional Fire-type Pokemon like Arcanine, Ninetails, and Magmar to Magmortar.
We also have to mention Larvesta, which evolves to Volcarona, is one of the starters for the Bug-type route. It has the Fire type as a secondary typing, but remember, it is focused on the Bug aspect, and you can’t even get it in the field.
Another one is Houndour, which evolves into Houndoom, but they are in the Dark-type specialty.
Starter Park
The Starter Park is unlocked once you reach Rank 2. This area will allow you to encounter a ton of starter Pokemon from different generations.
Regardless of what rank you are and the time of day, all starter Pokemon can be encountered with a 4.2% rate. Listed below are the starters you can catch and their evolutions, which are all Fire types.
Fire-type Pokemon Starters You Can Catch
- Charmander evolves into Charmeleon and Charizard.
- Cyndaquil evolves into Quilava and Typhlosion.
- Torchic evolves into Combusken and Blaziken.
- Chimchar evolves into Monferno and Infernape.
- Tepig evolves into Pignite and Emboar.
- Fennekin evolves into Braixen and Delphox.
- Litten evolves into Torracat and Incineroar.
- Scorbunny evolves into Raboot and Cinderace.
Slugma to Macargo
Our lovable lava snail is in this game with abilities like Magma Armor, which makes it invulnerable to being frozen, and Flame Body, which inflicts Burn on an enemy that makes contact with it.
Slugma can only be encountered in the Molten Steel Pit at a 30% encounter rate. It cannot be encountered anymore at Rank 5.
Macargo evolves from Slugma at level 38. It has the same abilities as Slugma and is obviously just a better and tougher version. It can be encountered in the Molten Steel Pit at Rank 5 and beyond, with a 30% encounter rate.
Carkol to Coalossal
Carkol is a Rock/Fire type that can be encountered in the Molten Steel Pit with an encounter rate of 10% from Rank 3 moving forward.
You can also get a Carkol by evolving a Rolycoly, which is also from the Molten Steel Pit, with a 20% encounter at Rank 1 to 2 only.
The problem with Rolycoly is that it is only a Rock type. Evolve Carkol to Coalossal at level 34, since that is the only way you can get it.
Fletchinder to Talonflame
One of the best flying Pokemon with fire as its secondary typing, you would want to have a Talonflame.
Catching the Normal/Flying-type Fletchling in the New Day Plain with an encounter rate of 10% from Rank 1 to 2 only.
From Rank 3 moving onwards, you can catch a Fletchinder, which you can then evolve into a Talonflame, which is the only way to get one.
Salandit to Salazzle
Both of these Pokemon have the Poison/Fire typing and are quite good. Salandit is encountered at the Molten Steel Pit at a rate of 8%.
To get a Salazzle, you have to evolve a female Salandit at level 33. The male Salandit will not evolve, and both have the ability Corrosion, which can inflict poison on Steel and Poison types.
Both Salandit and Salazzle can also be encountered in the Rundown Building, but Salazzle can only be encountered at Rank 5 with a 1% encounter rate.
Turtonator
This Dragon/Fire-type Pokemon is located in the Molten Steel Pit with an encounter rate of 5%. You may want to pick this one up since it has the Dragon type as a part of its arsenal.
It has the ability Shell Armor, which blocks critical hits. A strong Pokemon to have on your team for your Gym defense battles.
Breezian Fire Types in Pokemon This Gym of Mine
These Breezian forms are exclusive to Pokemon This Gym of Mine. They are just alternate looks and types for two Fire-type Pokemon. Namely, we have Magby, which evolves into Magmar and later Magmortar.
Both Magby and Magmar can be encountered in the wild, and you can train them if you want a Magmortar. As Breezeian forms, they have a Fire/Water typing.
The other Breezian Fire type is Mismagius, which evolves into Misdemur. These two are Ghost/Fire types, but you have to evolve Misdemur, while Mismagius can be encountered.
Catching a Misdreavus can also be a good way to get a Mismagius because it evolves into one. All of these Breezian forms can be encountered on the Windmill Way, but at very low encounter rates.
Umbal Onix to Smeltix
This is a Rock/Fire-type Pokemon that can be obtained in the early game. A different kind of Onix from the usual one, since the Umbal Onix has a Fire type as its secondary typing.
It has two abilities, namely Rock Head, which protects it from recoil, and Final Touch, which boosts super-effective moves.
A Smeltix is an evolved form of the Umbal Onix. It has a Steel/Fire-type combination and has the same abilities.
Aside from evolving it, you can also encounter a Smeltix in the following locations. These would be the Cast Iron Cavern, Craggy Pass, and the Molten Steel Pit, with a very low encounter rate.
All three locations can also spawn an Umbal Onix, as well as the Cold Steel Cavern area.
