The Badlands is an area in Pokemon This Gym of Mine. On paper, it is like any other area in the game.

It has trainer battles and Pokemon encounters. In fact, there is no real requirement to access this area, and you can access the Badlands even at the beginning of the game.

The only issue is that you may be a bit weak to get here first. Even before you get here, there are trainers who will give you a headache.

The Pokemon in the Badlands are also not easy, but if you’re prepared, you can deal with them. The Badlands is also home to some plot points later on, which we will be divulging.

Badlands in Pokemon This Gym of Mine: Points of Interest

There are a couple of interesting things to do, or more likely, you have to do them because they are required in the story progression.

Hiker Paul Fight

Challenging hiker paul

Hiker Paul is a trainer who will appear right outside the exit of the Cast Iron Cavern. This fight is hard, as he only has one Pokemon, which is Tyranitar.

The problem is that this Tyranitar is at level 70 and is so hard if you’re not that prepared. Fight him when you are able to do so.

Rough Riders Hideout

The rough riders hideout

The hideout for the villains in the game is located in the Badlands. The hideout is located in the middle of the map as another cave with an entrance. There are a lot of trainers here, and they are strong, so be careful.

The leader of the Rough Riders named Edgar can be fought later on. When you reach Rank 3, Edgar will send you a letter challenging you to a fight.

You have to prepare first, and you don’t need to fight Edgar right away. Build up your team, because this guy is no pushover.

The Final Boss

This is a bit of a spoiler, but when you reach Rank 7, the real final boss of the game will be revealed.

You need to have defeated Edgar first because the final boss will still be located in the same area where you fought Edgar.

After a few dialogues, the battle will commence. This guy is tough, so be prepared ahead of time.

Even Badder Lands

The even badder lands

There is another location west of the Badlands where there is an entrance. This will take you to the Even Badder Lands location.

The explanation by the NPC here is that this is a Badlands in an alternate time where the Rough Riders didn’t take it over. The Pokemon here are very tough, so you may want to come here later on.

Pokemon Encounters

  • Alakazam
  • Gengar
  • Golem
  • Machamp

The Super Boss

The super boss

When you reach Rank 8, the dev named Shane can be fought as a Super Boss. If the final boss was hard, then Shane isn’t going to give you mercy. To fight him, head to the same exit to the west where you entered the Even Badder Lands.

Shane will be in his room, and he’ll give you time to prepare. You can access a PC to do whatever, so that you can fight him and hopefully win.

FAQs

Are there quests in the Badlands?

There are none in terms of side quests. All you’ll get are those required by the story, such as fighting Edgar and the final boss. Everything else is optional.

Can you rematch the trainers in the Badlands?

The answer is no; once a trainer has been defeated, you cannot fight them again. This applies to those inside the Rough Riders Hideout.
