Who Is Edgar?

Edgar is the leader of the Rough Riders. The Rough Riders are the game’s antagonistic organization, much like the Team Rocket from the mainline Gen 1 games.
They have been harassing the town, and you can fight some of its trainers in the field. You can later find and fight Edgar so that the story will progress.
Requirements for Fighting Edgar
Getting Kidnapped

This is a bit of a spoiler, but you need to progress the story a bit further. There will be a point in the game where you will be kidnapped by the Rough Riders. It will happen, and you will be taken to the Rough Riders Hideout in the Badlands.
When you get kidnapped, you have to fight your way out of the Rough Riders Hideout. You could also bribe them with some Gold Nuggets if you have any and if you want to.
This will be a bit tough, but don’t worry too much since you will not be getting any steep penalties.
After you escape the Rough Riders, you can continue playing the game until Edgar challenges you to a fight.
When that happens, you don’t have to fight him right away. However, you can’t progress the story until you fight and beat Edgar when he sends you his invitation through the mail.
Reach Rank 3
Before Edgar sends you the challenge, you will need to be Rank 3. Most of the time, players are already Rank 3 when this happens or when they get kidnapped.
For the most part, reaching Rank 3 is just part of the game, and you can progress to it easily. Once you defeat Edgar, you can also ascend to Rank 4.
How to Find Edgar
Edgar will be at the Rough Riders Hideout, the same place where you got kidnapped. If you didn’t know, then we’ll give you a simple guide.
Step 1: Head to Craggy Pass
Go west from Umbal City through Craggy Pass.

Step 2: Enter the Cast Iron Cavern
Head north from Craggy Pass and you’ll see the entrance to a cave, which is the Cast Iron Cavern.

Step 3: Head west to the Badlands

When you’re inside Cast Iron Cavern, head west to the exit leading to the Badlands.
Step 4: Head to the Center
Now that you’re in the Badlands, head to the middle of the map where the Rough Riders Hideout is.
If you’ve been here before, you would notice that you cannot enter it yet. Now that you’re done getting kidnapped, you can enter this place.
Step 5: Go to the Lower-Right Ladder
Once inside, head north to go down the ladder. On the next floor, head to the lower-right ladder, which will lead you to Edgar.

Step 6: Fight Edgar
Head to where Edgar is standing, talk to him, and prepare for a battle.

FAQs
Is Edgar a required fight?
Yes, it is. Once you receive the letter from him challenging you, you need to beat him to progress the story.
You don’t have to fight him right away, as you can still do some things outside of story progression. Plus, you have to prepare your team to take him down.
Is Edgar hard?
In some aspects, he can be, but he is bearable. If you have a Dragon, Fairy, or Ice-type Pokemon roster, then it can be a bit easier than most typings.
In Closing
