Pokemon Odyssey Team Building Overview

Before we give you the best team in Pokemon Odyssey suggestions, we have to give you what factors into these decisions.
After all, you can always swap the Pokemon in your team anytime you’re struggling.
We won’t just be giving you six Pokemon but a plethora of them, so you may know why you would want them.
First of all, there are factors such as abilities, moves, types, weather effects, and the stage of the game.
The stage of the game means if it is still early on, mid-game, or late-game. Some Pokemon fall off later on, and some get better further on, so we’ll be sure to tell you why.
Our Top Picks for the Best Team in Pokemon Odyssey

Plusle and Minun
Let’s start with these two, which are your starter Pokemon. These two are decent in the early to mid-game.
They have the abilities Plus and Minus. What that means is that when both Plusle and Minun are out in a double battle, both of their SP. Attacks will be boosted by 50%.
In the late-game, these two can still be viable. Once you evolve them into their Battle Bond forms, they gain the Aether type.
Plusle can be more of a good tank and support. Let it learn moves like Follow Me, Reflect, Light Screen, and even Heal Bell.
Minun can be the damage dealer with moves like Water Bomb, Thunderbolt, and Mystical Fire.
Aerodactyl
Aerodactyl has a regional form in this game, and it is a Rock/Dragon type. This is a good Pokemon for early- to mid-game status.
You have access to Dragon type moves early on, which is good for some fights that are about to come up.
Aerodactyl can be a good attacker with its high Attack and Speed stats. Its Rock type without the Flying type makes it resistant to Electric moves, which can kill it fast in its regular form.
Give your Aerodactyl a Life Orb and moves like Earthquake and Rock Slide. The only downside is that you have to do a quest to get the Aerodactyl, as you can’t encounter it.
Gallade
This Gallade is an Aether/Fighting type due to it being a regional variant. A very strong attacker with speed to match its attacks.
An ideal Pokemon to have from mid- to late-game, and if you can catch a Ralts early on, you can build your Gallade up much faster.
It has the ability Super Luck, which increases its critical hit ratio. Giving it the Scope Lens item further improves its critical hit ratio.
Also, moves like Close Combat, Drain Punch, and 5 Ring Sword will do wonders.
Magmortar
This variant of Magmortar is a good choice. A decent one from mid- to late-game since it has a Fire/Water-type mix, making it more resistant to Fire-type attacks and can counterattack Grass types.
Basically, Magmortar is like a Gallade, but it specializes more in SP Attack, whereas Gallade excels more in Attack.
Magmortar also has Super Luck and gives it a Focus Lens for a higher critical hit ratio. Give it moves like Rapid Fire and Hydro Pump or other moves that rely on SP Attack.
Getting a Magmortar can take time, which is why this is perfect for mid- to late-game.
Blissey
This Blissey is a Normal/Aether type and can be ideal for mid- to late-game. This Pokemon can be utilized more as a tanker or support.
Pair it up with a squishy attacker, and both of them can survive. For tanking purposes, give it moves like Light Screen and Reflect.
If you want to make it as a support, moves like Heal and Aromatherapy. The latter move is very good with the game’s double battle mechanics.
Blissey isn’t that bad of an attacker as well, with moves like Bulldoze and Icy Wind. Give it Leftovers to make it even tougher than before.
Acceptable Pokemon to Get Later in the Game

Tyranitar
In any game, Tyranitar is always ideal. Having weather effects and impressive stats, you would want one of these for late-game purposes.
Standard moves to have are Earthquake and Hyper Beam.
Dragonite
Another traditional strong Pokemon with the Dragon type and impressive stats. Teach this one some Dragon-type moves.
Ideal for mid to late-game situations since you can capture a Dratini in the Fourth Stratum.
Arbok
Arbok is actually a good Pokemon for early game use. It does fall off later on, but this guy can help you with the early Stratums.
It is a Poison/Aether type, so it has a plethora of moves to deal damage over time while keeping itself alive.
Altaria
If you have the patience to headbutt the trees in Fibernia Woods, you can get a Swablu. A good support Pokemon early on, and it doesn’t fall off that hard even in the late-game.
Teach it moves like Heal Bell, Sing, and even Roost.
Reefsola
An original Pokemon, which evolves from Corsola. This one is a Grass/Rock type and has the ability Solid Rock. This ability reduces the damage taken from super-effective moves.
Reefsola is a good tank Pokemon and gives it moves like Leech Seed and Protect.
Typhlosion/Feraligtr/Bayleef
We’re lumping all three of these together because they fulfill all three roles perfectly. You got Typhlosion for the SP Attack, Feraligatr for the Attack aspect, and Bayleef for the support.
The downside is that you need to be lucky to get their initial forms. The way to do it is by doing the Wonder Trade, and it all boils down to luck.
If you are lucky enough to get one of them, they can be worth the investment from early to late-game once they fully evolve.
It also helps that these are regional forms offering more to the plate.

Adapting and changing your lineup is something that you can always do. If there’s a fight that is hard for you, just change Pokemon.
Depending on what mode you play, your levels will be locked until you progress through the story. That won’t be a problem as long as you have the right Pokemon on your team.
If nothing else, just save and retry again and change teams while you’re at it.
