Pokemon Odyssey

This is probably one of the most beautiful and ambitious ROM hacks out there. It is called Pokemon Odyssey and to say that the creators didn’t spend a lot of time on it is an understatement.

This hack is meant to be a combination of Pokemon, Made in Abyss, and Etrian Odyssey. The good thing is that you don’t need to know about those games to play and enjoy this hack.

Anyway, this hack specifically needs the FireRed (U) 1.0 ROM hack as its base as stated by the programmers. This game is also still in the beta phase, so it’s not complete.

Expect some bugs or some issues, but they may be fixed somewhere down the line — much like other ROM hacks on this list which are good but some of them are still incomplete.

Pokemon Odyssey Details and More

Story

The story centers around the Yggdrasil Labyrinth, which is located in the island of Talrega. Adventurers from all over the world take a stab at the Labyrinth for fame or fortune.

The player is named Nyx, who tries an attempt to explore the Labyrinth, but something goes awry which leads to the events of the game.

Features

Despite that cool storyline, it is still a Pokemon game. You catch Pokemon and battle other trainers with them. It is the same gameplay sprinkled with other features to boot.

While the battle system is the same, some parts are changed. There are no Gym Leaders to fight, because this is an adventure game rather than becoming a great Pokemon Trainer.

Battles are usually in double battles unless you only have one Pokemon. There are quests to do and exploration is encouraged. Character portraits are also available for some NPCs and main characters of the game.
