Whether it’s passing down perfect IVs and building a competitive team or just copying your opponent’s Pokemon for fun with Transform, Ditto is the perfect Pokemon.

The only problem is that Ditto is super hard to find. It can be caught only in one location on the entire map.

In this guide, I’ll show you where to find Ditto in Pokemon Black 2 and White 2, how to catch it easily, and how it can help you on your Unova journey.

  • Location: Giant Chasm
  • Areas: Forest and Forest Cave
  • Level range: 50 to 52

There are only two places where you can catch Ditto in Black 2 and White 2, and both of them are inside the Giant Chasm. The first spot is the forest area with the scattered bones.

Ditto can appear here in the tall grass once you reach the open clearing. The second spot is the small forest cave connected to this area.

This cave is different from the main entrance cave of the Giant Chasm, which often confuses players.

In both locations, Ditto has a 15 percent encounter rate and usually appears at around level 50 to 52, making it fairly easy to catch once you reach the late game.

How to Get to the Giant Chasm Forest

How to get to the giant chasm forest

Step 1: Go to Giant Chasm

Giant Chasm connects to Route 22 on the east side, Route 23 on the west, and Route 13 to the south. To explore the entire area, you need a Pokemon that knows Strength and Surf.

If you have not reached Route 21 and Seaside Cave yet, you will not be able to move deeper into the main cave.

The fastest way to reach Ditto’s location is to Fly to Humilau City, then travel through Route 22. This will take you directly to the east entrance of Giant Chasm.

Step 2: Go to the Forest Area

From the entrance, walk south until you reach a boulder on the left. Use Strength to push the boulder into the hole.

You can head north and Surf across the water to pick up TM Ice Beam, but if you want to go straight to Ditto, continue southwest.

Look for a set of stairs on the north wall. Go down the stairs and follow the path to the exit. This will lead you into the Crater or Forest Area, which is where Ditto can be found in Black 2 and White 2.

Step 3: Try Forest Cave

If you don’t have any luck and can’t find any Dittos in the forest area, you should try the north cave next. From the forest entrance, go north until you find a path on the right.

Keep heading east, through the crater in the middle of the forest, until you hit the east wall. From there, go north until you find a set of stairs and go into the North cave.

Dittos also appear here, and you can use Dusk Balls to take advantage of the cave environment.

Catching Ditto: Tips and Tricks

Catching ditto: tips and tricks

Tip #1: Lead with a Weak Pokemon

Ditto’s signature move is Transform, which copies all of its opponent’s stats, moves, and appearance.

Leading with a weak Pokemon without any useful moves would help you a ton in catching a Ditto since it cannot use moves its opponent doesn’t have.

On the other hand, if you encounter one and have a strong lead Pokemon, you can immediately switch to a defensive Pokemon to tank its hits while you bring its HP down.

Tip #2: Bring a False Swipe Pokemon

As with any other capture, Ditto can be caught more easily if it has the least amount of HP.

False Swipe is an attack that always leaves the target Pokemon with 1 HP, giving you the best chance of catching it.

However, Poison and Burn can make Ditto faint, so make sure you apply other status conditions instead, such as Paralysis or Sleep.

Tip #3: Bring These Poke Balls

If you’re searching for Ditto, then chances are you’re looking for a breeder Pokemon, and you’ll be needing lots of them. So, I always bring a ton of Poke Balls when Ditto-collecting.

I start off with a Quick Ball. You can catch a lot of Pokemon by simply throwing a Quick Ball as soon as you can. If that didn’t work, your next best option is the Ultra Ball.

If you’re in the Forest Cave, a Dusk Ball would still work great. If the battle drags on, Repeat Balls are very effective as well.

Conclusion

Ditto may be rare in Black 2 and White 2, but once you know where to look, catching one becomes easy.

The Giant Chasm forest and the small forest cave are the only confirmed places where Ditto appears, and both areas give you a solid chance of adding this incredibly useful Pokemon to your team.

With the right setup, the right Poke Balls, and a few simple strategies, you can fill your PC with Dittos for breeding, IV passing, and Pokedex completion.
