It has incredible Special Attack, great resistances, and useful moves that make it powerful for both the story and post-game battles.

The only challenge is that Magneton does not evolve through leveling or stones. It requires a special evolution method that many players miss if they are not familiar with this mechanic.

In this guide, I will show you exactly how to evolve Magneton in Pokemon Black 2 and White 2, where you need to go, and how you can maximize Magneton’s potential.

Don’t worry. You won’t be needing a trade partner for this one.

Magnemite evolves into Magneton through level up at Level 30. The problem is its final evolution.

Magneton evolves into Magnezone only when it levels up inside a magnetic field area. This method is different from standard level-up evolutions, and it does not require any evolution stones or items.

As long as Magneton gains at least one level while standing in the correct location, it will evolve immediately after the battle or right after using a Rare Candy.

In Pokemon Black 2 and White 2, the only area with a magnetic field is Chargestone Cave. By leveling up Magneton in any of the battle areas in this location, it will evolve into Magnezone.

How to Get to Chargestone Cave

Chargestone Cave is located between Route 6 and Mistralton City, so it is very easy to reach once you progress through the middle part of the game.

The quickest route is to Fly to Mistralton City, then head south to the entrance of Chargestone Cave.

You don’t need any HMs to enter the cave itself, but you must clear the main story events in Driftveil and Chargestone Cave before it becomes fully accessible.

Anyway, all you need to do is level up Magneton once inside this cave to evolve it. You can use a Rare Candy to make it quick, but you can also grind for Exp. through battling Trainers and wild Pokemon.

Where to Catch Magnemite in Black 2 and White 2

If you want to evolve Magneton into Magnezone, you will need a Magnemite first. The best place to catch one early in the game is the Virbank Complex.

Magnemite appears here both in the outer area and inside the complex, and you can encounter it by walking in the grass.

Magnemites here are around Level 11-15. The good thing about them is that you can catch them pretty early in the game, and you already have access to such strong typing.

You can also find Magnemites at Chargestone Cave, and they are Level 25 upwards. But you won’t have access to them until later in the game.

Why You Should Evolve Magneton

Magneton vs magnemite

Magnezone is hands down one of the best competitive Pokemon for Generation 5.

Its balanced defense and offense are perfect for the storyline, whether it’s getting badges in the early game or leaving your mark on Unova in the post-game.

When Magneton evolves into Magnezone, it gains a huge boost in Special Attack and bulk, letting it tank hits that Magneton would normally struggle with.

Its Electric and Steel typing also gives it a long list of resistances that make it incredibly reliable in many of Black 2 and White 2’s toughest battles.

From my own experience, Magnezone became one of the most dependable Pokemon I used in my playthrough.

It carried me through gym battles, tore through Team Plasma’s late-game teams, and handled many difficult matchups that other Electric types could not survive.

Once you evolve Magneton, you will instantly feel the difference in strength and utility. It’s also one of my go-to Pokemon to counter Dragon types in showdown.

If you can give it an Air Balloon as a held item, your Magnezone would be immune to ground-type attacks when it has full HP, making it completely unstoppable.

The Air Balloon is one of the best held items you can give Magnezone in Pokemon Black 2 and White 2. Its biggest weakness is Ground-type attacks, and the Air Balloon removes that weakness completely until Magnezone gets hit.

This gives you a free turn of safety, which is often enough to strike back with a powerful Electric or Steel move.

In Pokemon Black 2 and White 2, the only way to get an Air Balloon is through the Battle Subway in Nimbasa City.

You can buy it from the Battle Point exchange counter for 12 BP. Battle Points are earned by winning inside the Battle Subway.

The more battles you win, the faster you can buy useful competitive items like the Air Balloon.

Conclusion

Evolving Magneton into Magnezone is one of the easiest upgrades you can make in Black 2 and White 2 once you know what to do and where to go.

Chargestone Cave is the only magnetic field area in the entire game, and leveling up Magneton inside it guarantees an instant evolution.

After that, you get a powerhouse that can dominate many story battles and stay useful even in competitive play.

With its incredible Special Attack, amazing resistances, and access to strong moves, this evolution line stays valuable from start to finish.
