Building your perfect team for Sword and Shield is no walk in the park. Especially if one of the Pokemon in your party requires a specific stone to evolve.Â
Evolution stones have been a staple since Generation 1, from the classic Eeveelutions to competitive favorites like Roserade and Togekiss.
However, Gen 8 games do not explain clearly where to consistently get evolution stones. You might find one randomly, then struggle to find another when you actually need it.
In this guide, I’ll teach you all the reliable farming methods and locations so you can get all the evolution stones in Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield.

How to Get Evolution Stones in Pokemon Sword and Shield
So far, these are the two methods I spam to get as many evolution stones as I want.
One can be accessed early so you can get stones for your playthrough, and the other is basically an unlimited source of evolution stones in the late game.
Early Game: Digging Duo Brothers

While the late-game method is more profitable, you will not unlock it until much later.
The best part about this method is that you can start farming evolution stones as soon as you gain access to the Wild Area.
This method involves the Digging Duo located in Bridge Field in the Wild Area near the Pokemon Nursery. You will see two NPCs standing together who look like hikers or rangers.
These brothers will dig up treasure in exchange for 500 Watts per attempt. The key difference between them is how their reward system works:
- Left Brother: Finds better rewards but has low stamina. He usually stops after only a few digs.
- Right Brother: Has higher stamina and can dig more times, but rewards are more random and less rare.
If you are specifically farming evolution stones, focus on the right brother. He gives you the best overall chance of getting different stone types over multiple digs.
The stamina-focused brother gives roughly a 2-3% chance of finding an Evolution Stone each time he finds an item. Sometimes he will dig up one item, sometimes three or more. The result is random.
Watts should not be a problem. You can easily farm them by interacting with active dens across the Wild Area.
Late Game: Stone Pillars Shiny Items

This method unlocks once you reach Route 9 and obtain the upgrade that lets your Rotom Bike travel across water. This works similarly to Surf in older games.
From Route 9:
- Enter the northern Wild Area through Giant’s Cap
- Travel toward the Lake of Outrage
- Cross the water using your bike
- Reach the stone circle area with a raid den in the center
If you look closely, you will see shiny items near each large stone pillar. These are all evolution stones, and each one is a different type.
The best part is that these shiny items respawn every 24 hours, allowing you to farm evolution stones infinitely by checking the area daily.
Here are the evolution stones you can find at the Lake of Outrage:
- Fire Stone
- Water Stone
- Thunder Stone
- Leaf Stone
- Ice Stone
- Dawn Stone
- Dusk Stone
- Shiny Stone
- Sun Stone
- Moon Stone
