So, you finally came across the mysterious sleeping Charizard resting on top of Mt. Ceram. For many players, it’s one of the most confusing moments in Pokemon Dreamstone Mysteries.

Charizard is a very rare Pokemon in this ROM hack, and this encounter is your only legitimate chance to catch it.

The problem? Most players can’t even figure out how to wake it up. The required item, the Poke Flute, isn’t part of the main story and can only be obtained through a specific side quest.

In this guide, I’ll show you exactly how to wake up Charizard in Pokemon Dreamstone Mysteries.

How to Get the Poke Flute in Pokemon Dreamstone Mysteries

You can only get the PokeFlute in Dreamstone Mysteries after you have access to Rivetshore City. That means you need to have at least 7 badges before you can try and wake up the sleeping Charizard.

Getting the Poke Flute will also allow you to catch the other Kanto starters, Blastoise and Venusaur. All before even beating the 8th gym.

The Quest

After reaching Rivetshore City, go southwest of the Pokemon Center and head inside the Rivetshore Construction building.

The staff will inform you that their CEO is hiring for a very special type of job. So go upstairs and talk to the CEO.

He will then tell you about his precious Pokemon, Percy, who has gone missing. Then, he will offer you a contract to look for his pet in exchange for a reward.

After you accept the contract, the quest, Percy’s Gone Missing, will start.

Finding Percy

Percy's location

Before you go and look for Percy, you need to go to the Rivetshore Harbor and witness the Gym Leaders talking to the Detectives.

This is an important event that will let you progress through the story.

After that, go west of Rivetshore Construction to a rocky terrain filled with Arons. Then head north until you need to choose a path.

Go west until you find a Trainer with an Avalugg. Then head north and heal up in the infirmary.

Behind the infirmary, you’ll find Percy. But as soon as you interact with it, you’ll find out that it was led there by another Pokemon.

Then, a Mimikyu comes out of nowhere and attacks you. You will have to either beat it in battle or catch it to continue. After that, Percy will head back to the CEO.

Now return to Rivetshore Construction, talk to the CEO again, and he will thank you and reward you with a Poke Flute.

How to Wake Charizard Up

Waking charizard up

With the Poke Flute in hand, you can now wake Charizard up. Just make your way back to Ceram Base Camp and go up the mountain.

If you forgot how to get to Charizard in Pokemon Dreamstone Mysteries, don’t worry, I got you covered.

You can’t go to Charizard unprepared, especially since you want to capture it. So, here are some essentials you should pack before going on this journey:

  • Poke Balls/Quick Ball/Ultra Ball
  • Poke Flute
  • Pokemon with Rock Smash
  • Pokemon with False Swipe/Spore (optional for better catch rate)

Start by flying to Ceram Base Camp. Then, head north and go up the stairs until you find two stones that can be rock-smashed.

Break one to get through, then go west and go upwards through two sets of stairs. Then follow the path going east, north, and south until you find the cave entrance to Mt. Ceram Interior.

Once you’re inside, keep following the path until you need to choose a direction. Pick south, but don’t go out of the cave.

Instead, keep heading east, then north to find another cave inside a cave. Sounds crazy, right? Another thing that sets Pokemon Dreamstone Mysteries apart from other ROM hacks.

Path to charizard

Anyways, if you follow this path, you’ll be able to find the exit that leads to a set of stairs where Charizard lies in its slumber.

Keep heading up until you find Charizard. Interact with it and use the Poke Flute, and Charizard will wake up furiously.

Charizard encounter

The first thing you want to do is throw a Quick Ball. This gives you a high chance of capturing Charizard without even having to battle it. That’s how I caught mine.

Conclusion

And that’s how you wake up the sleeping Charizard in Pokemon Dreamstone Mysteries!

It’s one of the most rewarding side quests in the game, not only because Charizard is such a rare catch, but also because it allows you to catch both Blastoise and Venusaur with the Poke Flute’s help.

Just remember, you’ll need to progress far enough to reach Rivetshore City and complete the “Percy’s Gone Missing” quest for the Poke Flute.

Once you’ve done that, head back to Mt. Ceram, play the flute, and claim your fiery reward. Don’t forget to save before the battle, as this Charizard is worth it.
