Hawlucha is one of the Pokemon that received a Mega form in the latest installment of the franchise’s mainline games, Pokemon Legends ZA. Originally added in the Generation 6 of video games, Hawlucha is a decent standalone Physical attacker that excels in dealing the first blood with its high Speed stat.

In Pokemon Legends ZA, with its unique real-time battle system, Hawlucha’s Speed allows the Wrestling Pokemon to land more hits through faster cooldowns. With that in mind, taking it down means using the right Pokemon that can deal heavy damage before it overwhelms you with rapid attacks.

This guide will reveal the methods concerning Hawlucha, especially its mega form and how you can take advantage of its weaknesses.

Key Highlights:

  • Hawlucha is weak against Electric-, Ice-, Flying-, Psychic-, and Fairy-type moves.
  • You can beat Hawlucha using Pokemon like Feraligatr, Gyarados, Dragonite, and Gardevoir.
  • Players can capture a wild Hawlucha on the rooftop near Restaurant Le Yeah.

Hawlucha’s Weaknesses in Pokemon Legends ZA

Hawlucha is a dual-type Pokemon, mixing the traits of the Fighting and Flying types. Considering its unique type combination, here are the move types that Hawlucha is weak against:

  • Electric (x2)
  • Ice (x2)
  • Flying (x2)
  • Psychic (x2)
  • Fairy (x2)

Given the number of its type weaknesses, it’s quite easy to find a Pokemon that can stand its ground against Hawlucha. Try to select a Pokemon that shares the same typing as these moves (except Ice) so they can deal more damage due to STAB mechanics.

Pro tip: When dealing an Ice-type move on Hawlucha, avoid using an Ice-type Pokemon, since it can receive 2x damage from Hawlucha’s Fighting-type moves.

On the other hand, avoid fighting Hawlucha with the following moves:

  • Ground (no effect)
  • Grass (1/2 damage)
  • Fighting (1/2 damage)
  • Bug (1/2 damage)
  • Dark (1/2 damage)

As long as you don’t use these types of moves against Hawlucha, you should be able to take it down with ease, even during a Rogue Mega battle.

Tips for Fighting Rogue Mega Hawlucha

Fighting mega hawlucha with xerneas

Hawlucha’s dominant stat is Speed (118), but once it turns into a Mega Hawlucha, its highest stat becomes Attack at 137.

When fighting a Rogue Mega Hawlucha, make sure that your team is mostly level 70 or more, with at least two or three Pokemon that can deal 2x damage for the battle.

Unlike other Rogue Mega Pokemon, Mega Hawlucha’s attacks are not that difficult to dodge.

Before hitting you, Mega Hawlucha will attempt to get closer to you, and once it gets close enough, it will use its claws to damage your character. Such an attack has a few seconds of animation, giving you a decent amount of time to dodge roll and counterattack.

Pay attention when Mega Hawlucha uses its golden attack, where it lunges into the air and smashes your most recent location. Once Mega Hawlucha disappears, dodge and roll around until it shows itself again.

After beating the Rogue Mega Hawlucha, you will receive a Hawluchanite Mega stone that you can use to mega evolve your own Hawlucha.

Where to Catch a Wild Hawlucha in Pokemon Legends ZA

Spotting a wild hawlucha

In the early- to mid-game where you’re still working your way through the story, you can encounter and capture a wild Hawlucha on the top of a building between Restaurant Le Yeah and Rouge Sector 4.

To reach Hawlucha’s location, follow these steps:

  • Step 1: Teleport to Wild Zone 3.
  • Step 2: Ride the holovator southwest of Wild Zone 3.
  • Step 3: From the rooftop, head north and pass through the web bridge.
  • Step 4: Continue your way northward until you reach a couple of benches. From here, go to your right through the plank bridge.
  • Step 5: Turn right again, and you should see an area filled with Mega Shards. This is Hawlucha’s spawn location.

If you can’t see a Hawlucha there, go back to the spot with two benches and use one of them to switch the time of day. The benches will also come in handy if you’re trying to Shiny hunt Hawlucha.

Hawlucha is also available in Hyperspace dimensions featuring Flying- and Fighting-type Pokemon if you have the Mega Dimension DLC.

Final Thoughts

While Hawlucha is a strong Pokemon, it has a variety of type weaknesses that makes it easy to deal with, as long as you have the right counters in your team.

Apart from story progression, Hawlucha can also become a viable contender in PvP matches, as its low-cooldown moves give it an advantage in taking down other players’ Pokemon quickly.
