From secret grass patches to obscure Reddit tips, there’s no shortage of speculation. But did you know you can actually get Yoshi early in your adventure, and it’s not even that hard?
It’s a powerful Normal-type with an insane HP and defense stat spread, a versatile movepool, and multiple evolutionary forms.
In this Super Mariomon guide, I’ll show you all the locations where you can find Yoshi, how it evolves, and why this dino deserves a permanent slot on your party.

Finding Yoshi in Super Mariomon
Yoshi may seem hard to find at first, but you can actually find it all over the Mariomon world.
Location 1: Mushroom Kingdom (World 1 – Free Gift from Peach)
This is by far the easiest and most beginner-friendly way to get Yoshi.
After earning your first Power Star (equivalent to a gym badge) by beating Princess Peach in the Mushroom Kingdom. She’ll reward you with:
- Your first Power Star
- Charm TM
- A Yoshi Egg
This means you can start raising a Baby Yoshi right from the early parts of your adventure, way before reaching the mid-game.
It’s one of the few guaranteed encounters in the game, and the best way to get a Yoshi right from the get-go.
Location 2: Safari Zone (World 5 – Between Kong Capital and Banana Temple)
This is the most reliable wild location for catching Yoshi later in the game. The Safari Zone is a lush area found between Kong Capital and the Banana Temple in World 5.
Yoshi can spawn in the tall grass here, and while the encounter rate still isn’t super high, it’s a far better shot than random wild patches.
If you missed the early egg or want to build an all-Yoshi team, this is the best place to go Yoshi hunting.
Teleport to World 5-1 and head to the northeast warp pipe. Go inside and you’ll be teleported into the Safari Zone.
The Yoshi grass patch is located right underneath the two visible Yoshis near the Safari Zone entrance warp pipe.
This is the best spot for finding Yoshi in the game. I mean, the two visible Yoshi NPCs are a dead giveaway. However, Yoshis still aren’t a common spawn.
I had to spend 30 minutes here just to catch 3 Yoshis since I wanted to collect them all.
Unconfirmed Spawns
Current rumors claim that Yoshi has an extremely rare spawn rate across random patches of grass throughout the game.
While this could be true in theory, it’s unreliable and inconsistent. We don’t recommend wasting your time hoping for random luck, especially when there are three confirmed ways to get as many Yoshis as you want.
Yoshi Evolutions and Forms
Once you hatch or catch a Baby Yoshi, it will evolve into Yoshi at Level 20. But that’s just the beginning. Yoshi has multiple final evolution paths, depending on your decisions:
Stage 3 Evolutions
- Red Yoshi (Fire) – Use a Red Shell
- Blue Yoshi (Flying) – Use a Blue Shell
- Yellow Yoshi (Ground) – Use a Yellow Shell
- Yoob (Normal/Dragon) – Level up to Level 50 without using a shell
Each form comes with its own stat distribution and typing. The colored forms tend to lean toward offensive or utility builds, while Yoob is considered the tankiest of them all and can be a bulky attacker or a true late-game wall.
How to Breed Yoshi
If you already have a Yoshi or Yoob, you can breed it to get more Baby Yoshis. Here’s how:
- Step 1: Go to the Daycare Center in Diamond City
- Step 2: Breed Yoshi/Yoob with a Duplighost
- Step 3: Receive a Baby Yoshi Egg
Once hatched, you can choose how to evolve the baby by using a shell or leveling it up to 50. This gives players full control over which Yoshi form they want to raise, to fill a team role more effectively.
Yoshi Stats and Battle Potential
Yoshi is far more than a novelty or nostalgia pick. Its stat spread makes it a serious tank, even before reaching its final form.
If we compare it to Pokemon, Yoshi, who isn’t fully evolved yet, has defenses that are on par with Palkia and Mega Venusaur.

Defense: Insanely High
Special Defense: Insanely High
Attack/Sp. Atk: Mixed offensive options
Speed: Slightly lower than average
This means you can run Yoshi in multiple roles:
- Physical wall
- Mixed tank
- Support with utility moves
- Bulky offense
And since it’s Normal-type, it has very few weaknesses, making it perfect for soaking damage and staying in the fight longer than most Mariomon. Just be careful of those Fighting types.
