When you start your adventure in this ROM hack, one of the most exciting decisions is picking your starter.
Just like the original Pokemon games, your choice will significantly affect your early battles, overall strategy, and entire playthrough.

Getting to Know the Super Mariomon Starters
Choosing your starter in Pokemon games varies slightly in each game. In Super Mariomon, they stuck with the classic. Professor E. Gadd will give you your first Mariomon.
You (Mario) will pick first, and Luigi will go next, choosing the starter with the type that’s weak against your pick.
Piranha Plant: The Grass Type

Type: Grass
Abilities: Overgrow / Hidden: Unburden
Base Stats: HP: 60, Atk: 75, Def: 55, SpA: 35, SpD: 35, Spe: 40
Evolution: Peewee Piranha at Level 18, then Petey Piranha (Grass/Flying) at Level 32
Piranha Plant is a classic Mario villain that takes the role of the Grass-type starter in Super Mariomon.
It has strong early-game survivability and utility moves that can cripple opponents and allow you to control the flow of the battle. Late-game, it turns into a bulky physical sweeper.
Strengths:
- Strong against Water and Ground types
- Learns defensive and support moves early
- Evolves into the powerful and versatile Petey Piranha
Weaknesses:
- Weak against Ice (4x) and Fire
Notable Moves:
- Snap Trap (early): Traps and chips the opponent
- Ingrain (early): Recovers health every turn, enhancing bulk
- Petal Blizzard (mid): Strong physical Grass-type AOE move
- Leaf Blade (late): High power and critical-hit rate
- Dual Wingbeat (late): Utilizes its Dual STAB, Grass/Flying typing
Piranha Plant is skewed toward physical bulk and power. In the early game, its trapping and healing moves allow for battlefield control.
As it evolves, its enhanced stats and dual-typing expand its versatility. Trainers who enjoy balanced but offense-capable tanks will appreciate its flexibility and good move pool.
Bob-omb: The Fire Type

Type: Fire
Abilities: Blaze / Hidden: Aftermath
Base Stats: HP: 105, Atk: 70, Def: 25, SpA: 50, SpD: 20, Spe: 30
Evolution: Chuckya (Fire/Fighting) at Level 14, then King Bob-omb at Level 36
Bob-omb is the Fire-type option and is all about explosive power. Its enormous HP lets it absorb some damage, while its evolution into King Bob-omb gives it an unmatched physical presence.
Strengths:
- Very high base HP and offensive scaling
- Evolves early and gains Fighting typing, boosting offensive versatility
- Ideal for sweeping and applying pressure
Weaknesses:
- Very low Speed and defensive stats
- Susceptible to Water, Rock, and Ground-type moves
Notable Moves:
- Self-Destruct (early): Massive damage at the cost of fainting, great for taking opponents out when low on health.
- Flame Charge (early): Boosts Speed while dealing damage
- Spark (early): Counters Water-types with a chance to paralyze
- Flame Wheel (early): Stronger Fire-type option early
- Storm Throw, Wild Charge, Explosion (late): Versatile physical coverage
- Cross Chop, Head Crash, Superpower, Flare Blitz, Final Gambit (late): Devastating physical finishers
Despite its low Speed, Bob-omb’s bulk and power let it function as a slow tank and wallbreaker.
Bob-omb’s sheer HP pool can let it take a hit or two, while its destructive power will surely bring its opponents down. Not to mention, it can go out with a bang using Explosion.
If you love a juggernaut-style Mariomon that breaks through using sheer force, go with Bob-omb.
Blooper: The Water Type

Type: Water
Abilities: Torrent / Hidden: Sticky Hold
Base Stats: HP: 45, Atk: 50, Def: 30, SpA: 60, SpD: 80, Spe: 35
Evolution: Bubble Blooper at Level 16, then Gooper Blooper (Water/Poison) at Level 34
Blooper may seem underwhelming at first, but it shines in the late game thanks to its defensive and special attacking growth.
Its evolved form, Gooper Blooper, gains Poison typing, providing additional utility and resistances.
Strengths:
- High Special Defense from the start
- Evolves into a strong special attacker with Poison dual-typing for coverage
- Insane late-game potential
Weaknesses:
- Low Speed and Physical Defense in the early game
- Needs levels to shine
Notable Moves:
- Poison Gas (early): Spreads poison for chip and pressure
- Clear Smog (early): Resets stat boosts while dealing damage
- Venoshock (mid): Great synergy with Poison support
- Sludge Wave (late): Powerful Poison-type STAB
- Hydro Pump (late): High-damage Water-type finisher
- Snipeshot (late): Pierces through defenses with high crit potential
Blooper starts as a defensive wall against special attackers and can evolve into a deadly special sweeper.
Great for Trainers who like to grow into power, staying chill and lying low in the early game, then dominating the late game.
Choose Your Mariomon
Each starter in Super Mariomon offers a unique experience that reflects different playstyles.
Piranha Plant is best for strategic trainers who enjoy setting traps and slowly wearing down their opponents.
Bob-omb is built for those who love raw power and explosive gameplay, perfect for smashing through defenses with brute force.
Blooper, on the other hand, rewards patience and planning, growing from a modest start into a special-attacking menace in the late game.
No matter which Mariomon you choose, you’re set for an unforgettable adventure full of Nintendo charm and thrill.
And remember, you’ll have a chance to catch the other starters down the road, so go with the one that fits your style the most.
