Pokemon Sun is one of the two games that featured Alola, the last region introduced in the seventh generation of the Pokemon mainline games. It became a highly memorable classic for its Hawaiian and tropical-themed setting, which is quite distinctive from the previous entries in the franchise.

While many people would highly recommend playing Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon instead, the base Alola games are still worth a try, especially if you haven’t played Pokemon games in a while.

To spice things up, you can also consider using some cheats to build the Pokemon team that you want from the start or acquire any items that will make you the most overpowered Trainer in Alola!

Read This Before Using Our Cheats!

First of all, keep in mind that these Pokemon Sun cheats have only been tested on a single 3DS emulator, and that is none other than Citra. We received some reports that our cheats also work on other 3DS emulators like Azahar, but before doing so, please back up your save files.

Additionally, for those new to using cheats on Citra, we have a complete Citra cheating guide that you can read first so you can learn the basics.

And lastly, these cheats are only available for the following versions of Pokemon Sun:

  • 1.0
  • 1.1
  • 1.2

Any attempt to use a code that isn’t compatible with a certain ROM version will result in crashes or even corruption of a saved file. If you never updated your game before, the odds are it’s version 1.0.

These cheats provide alterations to all the Pokemon, including those that you own and those in the wild:

Warning: If activating a cheat comes with a set of instructions, follow them carefully, or else you will risk crashing your emulator or corrupting your save file. As always, and we can’t stress this enough, have a backup of your save file.

Catching Alolan Pokemon: While we do have a wild Pokemon encounter cheat, catching Alolan Pokemon won’t be possible with it, so what you can do is trigger a Ditto encounter, capture the Pokemon that you want, and breed them together to get its Alolan form.

Ditto has an Index Number of 132, and its hex code is 084. This is Ditto’s XXX code. For its YY, if you want to encounter a level 20, convert it into hex code, and you’ll end up with 14.

Once you’re done editing the master code for your desired Pokemon, hit APPLY. In the game, PRESS SELECT while walking on the tall grass and your desired Pokemon should appear if you triggered a wild encounter.

Warning: Be careful when testing this on non-1.0 versions of Pokemon Sun. Please backup your save files before doing so.

Final Notes

Make sure to read the instructions we added to the cheat thoroughly, especially if it involves pressing some buttons. If pressing buttons didn’t work, try to check if you have problems with your controller or the way your buttons are mapped.

A first-aid fix that always works for me when my emulator crashes is opening the emulator, accessing the cheat section of the game, and disabling all of its cheats before starting it again. Your save file should work fine after that.

    • Hello, some cheats might not work on Azahar even though it’s a Citra fork. I tested some of them using Azahar and they worked for me though. Citra remains the best emulator to test the cheats we have.
