What Are Candies in PokeRogue?
Candies in PokeRogue are a special type of currency that each Pokemon can have.
Every Pokemon has a corresponding candy, and these candies allow you to modify that Pokemon and make it stronger and better.
You earn candies for a Pokemon through various methods, actions, and features. You can also use candies in various ways for that Pokemon, such as unlocking its egg moves, boosting its stats, and buying its eggs.
Uses of Candies in PokeRogue
Candies are the ultimate currency for Pokemon in this game. The more candies a Pokemon has, the stronger and more potent it can be.
Here are the various benefits and uses of candy in PokeRogue:
- Reducing Starter Costs: Each Pokemon has a starter cost when used at the beginning of your runs. You are limited to only 10 points. Candies can be used to reduce a Pokemon’s starter cost, allowing you to bring more strong Pokemon as your starters.
- Unlocking Passive Abilities: Candies let you unlock a passive or secondary ability for your Pokemon. These are often OP abilities that make a Pokemon S-tier.
- Purchasing Eggs: After using candies to unlock a passive ability, you can use them to buy eggs of that Pokemon. These eggs have increased odds of being shiny, having a Hidden Ability, or a rare egg move.
How to Get Candies in PokeRogue: Best Methods
Now that you know how useful Candies are, let’s proceed to the different methods of obtaining them:
Battling
The most common way of obtaining Candies in PokeRogue is through battling. Using a Pokemon in battle increases that Pokemon’s Friendship stat.
Once you beat a certain number of Pokemon using it, your Pokemon will gain a Candy.
This number is proportional to the starter cost of your Pokemon. Basically, the higher the starter cost, the more Pokemon you need to faint before your Pokemon gains a Candy. However, this can be reduced by equipping your Pokemon with a Soothe Bell.
You can give up to 3 Soothe Bells to one Pokemon to gain Friendship much quicker and earn more Candies.
Catching
My favorite way of obtaining Candies in PokeRogue is catching and hatching. These are passive methods that also reap other rewards besides Candies.
Catching one of a Pokemon will give you one Candy for its kind. But when you catch or hatch a shiny version, you get more Candies.
A normal shiny will give you 5 Candies, a rare one will give you 10, and an Epic shiny will give you 20. If you catch a Boss Pokemon, your Candy rewards will be doubled.
Hatching
This is why I love hatching Pokemon because they also give you Candies.
The rewards are similar to catching Pokemon, where shinies give you more Candies. But what makes hatching the best is that you can use Candies to purchase Eggs for that Pokemon and hatching will give you Candies back!
Not to mention that these Eggs have a higher chance of hatching a shiny Pokemon with better abilities and egg moves.
I always use my Egg Vouchers in the Shiny Up machine since it comes with the most rewards.

Should I farm Candies in Classic or Endless?
You can earn Candies by playing both Classic and Endless, but they have their own pros and cons.Â
Personally, I find Endless much better because it’s much more chill and easy. You just need to melt the early floors with your starter (the one you’re farming Candies for) and acquire the needed held items and level gaps to make beating opponents more linear. You don’t need to worry about Trainer battles as well.
On the other hand, Classic and Daily Runs require you to beat fewer Pokemon to earn Candies compared to Endless. So, do whatever works for you and the mode you enjoy more.
What are The Best Pokemon for farming Candies
Candies allow you to build the perfect Pokemon with the best abilities, moves, and perfect IVs. The game also created some overpowered combinations that create unstoppable Pokemon.Â
For example, an Aipom/Ambipom can unlock the ability called Skill Link. This ability lets it maximize multi-hit abilities.
It can also learn the egg move Population Bomb, which can hit from one to 10 times. Guess what? Skill Link ensures you hit 10x every time.Â
Some of my other favorites include Heatran with Earth Eater making it immune to its 4x weakness to Ground-type moves, Gyarados with Moxie plus Ice Spinner egg move, and Miraidon with its Egg moves.Â
