Many players just want to bypass all that dialogue and battle grind when they have already played the games. So today, we’re here to teach you how to speed up DeSmuMe.

The DeSmuMe is a Nintendo DS emulator, so you can play your favorite Pokemon DS games and hacks using this one. There is a bit of difficulty for some people when it comes to the speed-up feature of this emulator.

The Quickness of the Speed-Up Feature

We have to establish this first because this is important. The speed-up feature of DeSmuMe is a bit different from other emulators.

Think about those Game Boy Advance emulators where the speed-up feature makes your game move like lightning.

The DeSmuMe’s default speed-up feature is not that noticeable. In most cases, the game seems like it’s lagging when you use the speed-up feature, although it is still moving faster than normal.

Don’t worry, because there is a trick to that, and we’ll tell you how.

Setting Up Your Speed-Up Buttons

Click on Config and choose Hotkey Config. There are three ways for you to speed up the game, so below are instructions on how and what they do.

Go to the hotkey config

All you need to do is set a button for each method, and you don’t even need to use all three of them.

Fast Forward (Hold)

Setting up the hold fast forward button

This method requires you to hold the button in order for the speed-up to function. This is a good method for those who want to have a level of control.

Hold it to go fast and then just release it when you don’t need to speed up.

Fast Forward (Toggle)

Setting up the toggle fast forward button

All you have to do is press the button to speed up, and there’s no need to hold the button. Press the button again to stop speeding up.

Increase and Decrease Speed

Setting up the increase and decrease speed buttons

This method is a bit more precise. When you press the Increase Speed button, you will see an increase in the FPS (image below).

The frame rate display when you increased the speed

The max you can go fast is 4, but the speed-up you get is the same as the fast forward options, both for hold and toggle options.

Increasing the speed in this method allows you to go as fast as you want without reaching the maximum speed-up number. You have to press the decrease-speed button to go back to normal. It isn’t going back to normal, so manually decreasing it is necessary.

While not speeding the game up, you can use the decreased speed to make the game slower.

Using the Dynamic Recompiler

When you follow the steps above on how to speed up DeSmuMe, you might notice that the actual speed isn’t that good. That’s where the Dynamic Recompiler comes in.

Head to emulation settings and click on the box to use the Dynamic Recompiler (image below).

Check the box to activate the dynamic recompiler

When you check the box, the game’s speed-up will be smooth and flawless. It doesn’t look and feel like the game is lagging or spiking.

Even the description says that it increases the speed-up. While it does say bugs may occur, we haven’t really encountered any.

Non-Pokemon games may encounter some bugs, but this significantly improves speed and performance.

Adjust Frame Skipping

Choose a number for the frame skip that you want

Use this method only if the Dynamic Recompiler doesn’t improve speed. Go to Config and click on Frame Skip.

Adjust the settings until you find the right balance. Choose a value other than zero to achieve the speed boost you need.

Also, make sure not to enable the Limit Frame Rate option, as disabling it allows the game to run faster.

FAQs

Can I combine the toggle/hold speed-up button with the increase speed option?

No, there are no added effects when you combine both. If the increase speed option is already at 4, holding or toggling the speed-up button doesn’t make the game even faster.

What are the possible bugs from using the Dynamic Recompiler?

We really can’t say; we haven’t felt or experienced any bugs with any of the games and hacks.
The one that comes close is the graphic glitch from Pokemon HeartGold. However, the glitch will just fix itself later, and we’re not sure if it is due to the Dynamic Recompiler.

In Closing

Now that you know how to speed up DeSmuMe, you don’t have to deal with that laggy default speed-up feature.

Adjust any of the frame skips if you need to, but the Dynamic Recompiler should be more than enough to speed through these games. For any emulator or Pokemon game, the speed-up feature is always a godsend.

Whenever you want to do things legitimately, grinding can be a pain. That’s where the speed-up button grants you all of your wishes to make your life a lot better.
