How to Change Nature in Pokemon Odyssey

The concept of Natures has been part of the Pokemon franchise since Generation 3. Since most GBA ROM hacks are based on Gen 3, it’s no surprise that the Nature mechanic is also implemented in these games to influence a Pokemon’s stats and growth.

Some people don’t take Natures too seriously, but if you do, then you might be looking for the best Natures for your Pokemon. 

Some players also wonder how to change Nature in Pokemon Odyssey, and we’re here to teach you how to do it.

What Are Natures in Pokemon?

Nature is a trait that a Pokemon will have when you obtain them. It doesn’t matter if you caught them or if they were given to you by an NPC, a Pokemon will have a random Nature generated. You can see a Pokemon’s Nature upon opening the Pokemon’s status menu.

There are 25 Natures in the game, and each Nature improves a stat but also has the drawback of reducing a stat. 

To give you an idea, here’s how Nature works for a Pokemon. The following Natures increase the Attack stat, but they have different drawbacks:

• Lonely decreases Defense
• Brave decreases Speed
• Hardy decreases Attack (so it basically cancels itself, meaning this Nature is not that good as you don’t get any benefit)

There are other Natures like that where they cancel each other out with their increase and decrease, like Docile increases Defense but also decreases Defense. There are others for specific stats as well.

A Pokemon that has the right Nature can be dominant in battle. That’s why players want to hunt a Pokemon with the Nature that they want. 

Plus, there are those Pokemon with bad Natures, so they get tucked to the sidelines.

To give you further insight, here are a couple of good examples of good Natures for specific Pokemon:

• Mewtwo: Timid is a good Nature because it increases Speed but reduces Attack. Having high Speed allows Mewtwo to attack first, and losing Attack doesn’t affect it that much since it specializes in Sp. Attack moves.
• Blastoise: Bold is good as it increases Defense, which is perfect for a tanky Blastoise. Getting its Attack reduced isn’t an issue since it can rely on some good moves that use Sp. Attack.

Hopefully, this summary gives you an idea of the importance of why some people want good Natures. 

Heading to Charon

The way to change Nature in Pokemon Odyssey is by paying money to the right NPCs. Those NPCs are located in Charon. You can access Charon by doing the sea navigation quest.

In order to unlock the quest, you just have to talk to the captain in Talrega. This can be done once you access Talrega, and the game allows you to explore after the tutorial and cutscenes. The captain will tell you to protect him as you navigate through the seas.

The real challenge is that before you can access Charon, there is a level 45 Kingdra that you have to beat. Once you beat it, you can then access Charon and have your Nature change.

The Nature Changing NPCs

Now that you’re in Charon, head north until you see this booth with three NPCs. We marked each NPC with a number so that you will know what they do.

As long as you have money, you can change the Nature of your Pokemon for an unlimited amount of time.

Using Cheats

If you want, there are some working cheats that you can use. Put the code as GameShark type by adding the specific Pokemon code after the first code. 

You can then encounter a Pokemon with that Nature. When you catch it, it will have the Nature that you want.

Note: We can’t say if the cheat harms the game, but as we’re using it, there haven’t been any issues. Just tread lightly though. The version we used is Pokemon Odyssey Beta 3.5.4. We can’t say if it will work for newer versions, but it does work for older ones.

You can change your Nature as early as possible as long as you have a way of beating that level 45 Kingdra blocking your way. Perhaps you don’t need to access it earlier than expected.
