Pokemon Odyssey has no Gym Leaders, but they have a substitute for them. In the hack, there are areas called Stratums. Think of these as areas where players will complete certain tasks and fight the Captain.

The Captain is sort of like the Gym Leader since you need to defeat them.

When a Captain is defeated, you can then proceed to the next Stratum and so on. That’s where our Pokemon Odyssey Second Stratum walkthrough comes in.

It’s going to be a bit of a bumpy ride, but fear not, because we’ll tell you everything you need to know.

Pokemon Odyssey Second Stratum: How to Get There

The second stratum

This one is very straightforward; all you have to do is finish the First Stratum. The First Stratum doesn’t have things for you to do.

All you need to accomplish is to defeat the Captain. Once that’s over, you’ll be able to gain access to the Second Stratum.

Be sure to unlock the teleporter from the Black Pillar. That way, you can leave and access the Second Stratum in a fast manner.

The black pillar is located right at the lower right of the entrance to the Second Stratum.

The Second Stratum is a huge desert, so if you want, you can bring some Water- and Grass-type Pokemon. It’s not required, but it can make your life a lot easier.

Gathering Points of Interest

There are two points of interest here where you gather those resources. Those would be mining and gathering from plants.

The key things you may want to gather here are 10 Topaz and 10 Yellow Flowers. Those are for the quest to upgrade the Poke Mart even more.

Walkthrough for the Second Stratum

From this point, you are free to explore the accessible and available areas in the Second Stratum if you want.

There will be some areas that are closed or blocked for the time being. That is because in order for you to face the Captain, you have to follow the series of events in order, which we will list below.

The Second Stratum will be littered with Trainers to fight and those pesky F.O.E. Pokemon that you have to avoid for now.

Don’t forget to always repair those small bridges so you can backtrack to places much faster and go back to the previous area.

Catch the Thief

The thief

Upon entering the Second Stratum, a cutscene will play where your friend Ethan will have his Medallion stolen. That is the first event that you need to complete.

Simply head east until you see this cave entrance in the image below.

The cave entrance

Navigate your way down the cave until you exit it. The cave itself isn’t big, so feel free to fight and catch some wild Pokemon and battle the Trainers.

Upon exiting, head down and right until you see your friends, and another cutscene will play. You will meet this girl named Kitt, and just let the dialogue finish.

Meeting kitt

Follow Kitt by going down, and you’ll be at her base camp called the Gorge of Zanado.

There are several side quests to do here. For now, just head to where Kitt is for more dialogue. She tells you that the thief’s hideout is in the east.

Now head up and head east. You will see this F.O.E. Pokemon, if you want to fight it, it is a level 38 Sandslash.

Continue heading east and head up until you see this big field of desert in the image below.

Now head left until you hit the wall, head north, and you’ll see this door. Trigger another series of dialogue.

The dialogue will end when the thief appears from below. He’ll run away, so you have to chase him now.

If you fix all those small bridges, the direction is heading down from the door. Continue going down two bridges until you see the cave to the right. Go inside and go to the right part where the thief is waiting.

There will be a battle, and once the thief is defeated, he’ll give you the password to the door. Head back to that door, and once the password is given, you will be able to enter.

Beating the thief

Inside the thief’s hideout, it isn’t so hard to navigate. There are also no wild Pokemon here, so all you need to take care of are the trainer battles.

Navigate your way north until you face Brody. Think of him as the boss of this area, and once he’s defeated, he’ll give back the Medallion.

Head back to the Gorge of Zanado, and you’re done with this part.

Finding the Captain

Once you’re back in the Gorge, talk to Kitt again. She’ll tell you that the Captain is her brother. After the dialogue, you can now head south, which you couldn’t access earlier.

Upon arriving in the lower area, another series of dialogues will play. After that, you’re free to explore since there are a lot of trainers to battle here.

There are no F.O.E. Pokemon here, so that’s good. If you want to fight the Captain right away, just head east.

It’s a very straightforward path, and the place isn’t hard to navigate. Once you arrive at the Captain’s location, a dialogue will happen, which will then let you fight the Captain named Rockey. It’s important to note that Sandstorm will be happening throughout this fight.

  • LV 28 Skarmory
  • LV 29 Donphan
  • LV 29 Marshtomp
  • LV 30 Aerodactyl

Once you beat Rockey, an earthquake will happen and another series of dialogue. You’re now done with the Second Stratum.

The exit leading to the Third Stratum is located north of the Zanada Gorge. In the image below, you will see the man blocking your way. Once you beat Rockey, that man will disappear.

FAQs

How many F.O.E. are in the Second Stratum?

There are only two F.O.E., the level 38 Sandslash and the level 38 Gliscor.

Is using the walk-through-walls cheat good here?

The cheat works, but if you do not run the events in order, the game will freeze or crash.

We accidentally went to fight Rockey first, but the game went to a black screen after the dialogue. That’s because you need to complete the medallion quest first.

In Closing

There you have it, a very informative Pokemon Odyssey Second Stratum walkthrough. This guide will help you clear the Second Stratum in a fast manner.

However, you don’t need to rush through it. Exploration is always fun, and there’s the fact that you need to strengthen your Pokemon.

Also, don’t worry about the F.O.E., since you can come back here later on. The Second Stratum doesn’t seem to be that hard. It has that normal level of difficulty to it, which is perfect for this part of the game.
