This is going to be our Pokemon Odyssey Third Stratum walkthrough. This is a guide to make your life easier when it comes to traversing the Third Stratum.
Our goal is to make sure that you head out and beat this area with the utmost speed.
However, you may still need to grind your Pokemon because the trainers here will be tough. Don’t forget about those pesky F.O.E. Pokemon running about.Â
Read this guide, and you’ll be done with the Third Stratum in no time. You can also use some Pokemon Odyssey cheats, if you feel like it.

Pokemon Odyssey Third Stratum: A General Overview
The Third Stratum looks like the inside of a volcano. The location is littered with lava and rock walls. Don’t worry, since you don’t have to walk on the lava and get damaged.
There are these rocks (image below) that you can jump on, which allow you to access certain parts of the area.
There is also only one gathering area here, which is a mining point. There are no flowers to get here, so just these items from mining.
The version of the bridges here is these rocks. Use them to cover up the holes in the ground. This allows you to backtrack to previous areas faster.
You also need it to go to the Fourth Stratum much faster later, when you defeat the Captain.
Finally, there will be a series of boss fights here, and not just the Captain fight. Prepare your Pokemon well or even spend some time grinding because this won’t be a cakewalk.
Going to the Base Camp
The first point of interest is to go to the base camp. Upon arriving in the Third Stratum, keep heading north to the entrance, and then up a ladder, and then you’ll end up in a large area.
For now, head left and don’t go down yet. The lower area will lead to a level 48 Arcanine F.O.E., so you can do that for later.
In the next area, just head left, then down, and then right until you see the next entrance. In the next area (image below), head right.
Going up and entering the entrance will lead to another F.O.E. battle against a level 48 Camerupt.
When you head right, just keep going until you arrive at the next area. Keep going until you reach a sign that says Third Stratum Base Camp (North).
Going left will lead you to the mining point. Head to the Base Camp, and a series of dialogues will happen.
Finding the Captain
Head north to exit the base camp. In the next area, head to the right to find the captain. Going left will lead you to the Fourth Stratum. However, that is a bit of a puzzle in itself.
Just head right for now to find the Captain. The exploration is limited, so keep going until you reach the area in the image below.
In this part, head left because going right will lead you to another F.O.E. battle against a level 48 Gengar. Moving forward, you’ll arrive in this next location (image below).
It doesn’t matter which bridge you go to. Up or right, you will still arrive in the same location. Enter the entrance and head up to find the Captain.
A series of dialogues will happen, so just let it play out. Once the Captain named Manu tells you to leave her and Kitt alone to talk, you have to interact with the stele.
Let the scene play out and head right. The Captain will be there to face you, so spark the battle and win.

When you defeat Kitt, the F.O.E. Pokemon can’t be caught yet. It isn’t like the previous Stratums, as you still have to progress the story further.
Heading to the Fourth Stratum
Head back to the base camp and recover. Do some of the side quests if you haven’t already done so. Now, head up and head left, going to the Fourth Stratum.
If you unlocked the rock bridge (image below), then you can head to the location much faster.
Keep following the path until you reach the entrance. Now, a long chain of dialogues will happen, and it starts your reunion with Olympia and Ethan.
After the dialogue, you will have to fight Ethan.
Ethan’s Pokemon
- LV 40 Arcanine
- LV 40 Blastoise
- LV 40 Breloom
- LV 40 Kecleon
- LV 40 Raichu
- LV 40 Tauros
After defeating Ethan, more dialogue will happen. Suddenly, you’re introduced to another enemy named Abyss General Kozuki.
He will heal your Pokemon, and now you will have to fight him. He’s no pushover, so be prepared.

- LV 40 Magneton (Sandy Shocks)
- LV 40 Slowking
- LV 40 Ursaring
- LV 40 Walrein
Once Kozuki is defeated and more dialogue happens, you will then be given the confirmation that the F.O.E. Pokemon can be caught.
That’s it! You’re done, so make your way to the Fourth Stratum for the next section of the game.
FAQs
How hard is the Third Stratum?
It’s not hard, but it can be challenging if you’re not prepared. The main problem is the boss fights. Fight the Captain, and then the fight against Ethan, followed by Kozuki.
Level 40 is the max level, at least at this point in the game. So, just grind and be prepared. Save the game before each fight just to be safe.
Are there really no flowers or gathering points?
There are none; the requirements for the Poke Mart upgrade are still the Yellow Flowers from the Second Stratum.
