What Pokemon Can Learn Cut

Cut (HM01) is a normal type move that appeared first in Generation I to Generation VI. In Generation, I to III Cut is used to removing obstacles such as trees that block your way.

Regarding learnset, Kartana is the only Pokemon that can learn cut by leveling up while most Pokemon can have cut by HM. Kartana is found only in Generation VII.

These changes were made to make gameplay smoother by removing the need for HM moves to be carried by Pokémon in the player’s party for navigation and obstacle removal.

The HM Cut is a must-move for every Pokemon player, and it brings an enormous help not only in cutting down blocking trees but also during a battle. Plenty of Pokemon can learn cut and not just the grass type Pokemon.

    • Hey Lewis, thanks for coming here. Unfortunately Sandile cannot learn the move Cut through normal gameplay means, such as leveling up, TMs, or HMs. Sandile has sharp pointed claws, but strangely it cannot learn the move. 🤔

  2. well all i know is that you shouldn’t pick blastoise because it can’t learn cut or you should find a spot with a pokemon that can learn cut like oddish for some reason you can find it in the grass patch by nugget bridge in gen 1

  3. So, I accidentally softlocked myself because none of my team can learn cut, and as far as I am aware none of the Pokemon outside vermilion city . Please help (in case you have not noticed this is gen 1)

  4. Hey, I’m playing Emerald version on my old GBA, and nobody in my team can learn cut. Do you know if there’s any common wild Pokemon near Petalburg or Rustboro that I could catch and teach it to??

    • Hi Bethany, Phantump can learn cut by HM in Gen 6 and a transfer-only move in Gen 7. However, in Gen. 8 Phantump can’t learn Cut as far as I know.

    • What Pokemon game version do you have? Meowth can learn cut in almost all generations via HM, except in Generations 1 and 2.

    • Nidoqueen can’t learn Cut in Generations prior to Generation 3. Since Pokemon Blue is Gen 1, you can’t teach Nidoqueen Cut.

  5. The one thing is that in one game(gen 1)you also will need a pokemon that learns cut naturally to get out of ceriliean city.Could you please explain which pokemon learn the move naturally as well?

    • Kartana is the only Pokemon that can learn cut by leveling up, other than that, Pokemon can learn cut by HM. Btw, you can only find Kartana in Generation VII.
