Pokemon games have been adding new features and functions as more recent games have been released. The Mega Evolution was a big deal when it came out, and players were excited about which ones could Mega Evolve.

Before we proceed, Gigantamax and Dynamax are two different things. While both are introduced in Gen 8, they are not the same.
We’re focusing on Gigantamax for now, and we’ll give you all the information you need when it comes to this transformation.

What You Need to Know About Gigantamax
What is Gigantamax?
In terms of the lore, the Legendary Pokemon Eternatus has left some of its Pokemon energy. Over the Region of Galar. Any Pokemon that have come in contact with its energy has the capabilities to Gigantamax. Professor Magnolia also states that Pokemon that can Gigantamax distorts the space around it, making it bigger and changing its appearance.
That’s the lore explanation; Gigantamax is a better form of Dynamax in terms of gameplay. They are different but at the same time have some similarities. Pokemon that can Dynamax and Gigantamax get bigger, but there are far more benefits with the latter.
Gigantamax Pokemon can not only get bigger but also have a change in appearance. The other thing is that they get a G-Max Move exclusive only to the Gigantamax form.
How do you know if a Pokemon can Gigantamax?
A Pokemon can Gigantamax when you see the butterfly-looking symbol beside its name. That is called the Gigantamax Factor. A Pokemon with the symbol shown in the image above can Gigantamax, but there are some things to keep in mind.
- Only Pokemon available for now that have Gigantamax forms will Gigantamax.
- Any Pokemon that doesn’t have a Gigantamax form but has the symbol will simply Dynamax.
- Some Pokemon that have the symbol that can Gigantamax will not evolve. Examples are Pikachu, Eevee and Meowth. That’s because these three don’t have Gigantamax forms for the evolved forms. They will simply not evolve but can Gigantamax.
You can get Gigantamax Pokemon from certain Raids or Dens as we’ve already made a guide for that that you can click on the related topics above.
Can every Pokemon Gigantamax?
The answer is no; as we already stated, even if a Pokemon has the Gigantamax Factor, it will simply Dynamax if it doesn’t have a Gigantamax form yet. Don’t worry since we’ll give you a list below when it comes to what Pokemon can Gigantamax. Right now, there are only 32 Pokemon that can Gigantamax, and two of them are Legendaries which is elaborated below.
List of Pokemon that Can Gigantamax
What legendary Pokemon can Gigantamax?
In terms of what Pokemon can Gigantamax, they also include Legendary. There are only two Legendary Pokemon as of now that can Gigantamax, and they are Urshifu (Rapid Strike) and Urshifu (Single Strike).
To give them the Gigantamax ability, you have to give them the Max Soup and Honey.
That’s all you need to know about what Pokemon can Gigantamax. Sadly, there are no new additions after Sword and Shield’s DLC Armor of Isles came out. The last batch of new Gigantamax was pretty much all from that DLC.
Are there going to be new and more Gigantamax in the future? We wouldn’t know for sure since the more recent games don’t have this feature yet.
Maybe the feature will remain stagnant for now, or it will appear in future games, but only time will tell.
