What Is a Gimmighoul?

Gimmighoul is a Ghost-type Pokemon that has two forms. The first form is the Chest Form, which is also the one that players will encounter first in Scarlet and Violet.

The other form is the Roaming Form where the Gimmighoul can be seen outside its chest.

Players can encounter a Gimmighoul in specific areas around Paldea. They’re like mimics from other games where they are disguised as treasure chests.

Opening the chests will spawn an encounter with a Chest Form Gimmighoul.

Players can only catch and battle the Chest Form in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet. The Roaming Form may also appear in those games, but it’s quite elusive that capturing it is impossible.

Upon escaping, it will leave behind Gimmighoul Coins that can be used to evolve the Gimmighoul.

As most experienced players know, finding a Shiny Pokemon requires a massive amount of luck, especially if you will rely on random encounters alone.

In fact, the exact ratio of encountering a Shiny Gimmighoul is 1 out of 4103. This is lesser than a regular Shiny encounter for other Pokemon which is around 1 in 4096.

Catching a Shiny Gimmighoul – Tera Raid Battles

Another way to get a Shiny Gimmighoul is through a Tera Raid battle.

Just to give a quick summary, a Tera Raid battle is a feature where a team of players engages in a battle with a Terastallized Pokemon.

Once a team of players beat the Terastallized Pokemon, they can catch it as a reward.

Before we continue, it is important to know that the event where they release the special Shiny Gimmighoul Tera Raid battles is over. It has a limited time from June 21 to July 7, 2023.

While it may come back later, it’s possible to reconfigure a Switch console’s time and date to experience the Shiny Gimmighoul event.

If you can access the raid event again, be sure to try the different levels of the Tera Raids. Go and try the 5-star Tera Raid battles and above.
