Relive your childhood memories with Pokemon TCG’s latest expansion, Pokemon 151 set!

No one was prepared when The Pokemon Company announced that it would release a special expansion within the Scarlet & Violet series that won’t be featuring any Gen 9 Pokemon.
Peculiar as it is, the set is even more intriguing since it is the first set so far to focus on a specific number in its title.
If it’s your first time hearing about the Pokemon 151 set, you might be wondering what the number is all about.
Don’t worry, we got you covered since this article will provide you some details that we know so far about this new set.
What Is Pokemon 151?
Pokemon 151 is the first special expansion for the Scarlet & Violet series. The number 151 stands for the first 151 Pokemon species that were first introduced in the entirety of the Pokemon franchise.
In other words, all Pokemon cards under Pokemon 151 are no other than the 151 Pokemon of Generation 1.
It’s quite common for special expansions to deviate from the main series expansions, and in this case, Pokemon 151 established a distinctive trait of bringing nostalgia among older Pokemon fans.
How Many Cards Will Pokemon 151 Have?
Pokemon 151 is expected to contain more than 165 cards, which includes trainer cards and special illustration variants of some of the 151 Pokemon cards.
The Legendary Pokemon Mew appears to be the focal Pokemon for the expansion, with one of the set’s symbols bearing the words “MEW.”
Highly Anticipated Cards in the Pokemon 151 Set
Out of the first 151 Pokemon from Gen 1, the three starter Pokemon and their respective evolution lines will surely shine.
Take a look at these stunning artwork of Charizard ex, Blastoise ex, and Venusaur ex:
Speaking about ex cards, it’s also refreshing to see the oldies bearing the ex symbol in their names just like the old days:
Another interesting fact about Pokemon 151 is the return of the Kadabra card. This card was last seen in the Skyridge expansion of 2003.
The reason behind this is that in the year 2000, Israeli-British magician Uri Geller sued Nintendo for allegedly using his name as an inspiration for Kadabra’s Japanese name, “Yungerer.”
As a response, the team behind the design and development of Pokemon cards at that time decided to stop printing any Kadabra cards until the issue with Geller had been settled.
Thankfully, Geller, after careful consideration, finally issued an apology after two decades, allowing Pokemon TCG fans to see Kadabra again with the release of Pokemon 151.
Did You Know?
Pokemon cards in the Pokemon 151 set aren’t ordered based on their types, but instead through the Gen 1 Pokemon’s actual National Pokedex numbers.

In Closing
With more than a thousand Pokemon currently registered on the National Pokedex, it would be a nice breath of fresh air to reunite with the well-loved Pokemon of Generation 1.
The growing hype about Pokemon 151 is justified by the fact that it will take a break from the modern Pokemon TCG formula by reintroducing classic artworks reminiscent of the 1999 Base Set.
