Pokemon GS Chronicles

One of the most popularly played Pokemon ROM hacks till today is Pokemon GS Chronicles. Though the future update of the game is still questionable at the moment, it is still playable and fun.

Featured Videos

It is an interesting ROM hack of FireRed, which takes the concept of Gold, Silver, and Crystal. The story is somewhat the same but at the same time different.

The game comes by default in a .BPS format which you can easily patch with any of the available patchers with no added cost.

The game has some bugs at the moment, but nothing too serious. GS Chronicles is still being developed with the help of the community.

The good thing is that you can always try it today, and the most exciting are the cheats that are available for this game. See our collection of working Pokemon GS Chronicles cheats.

Details on Pokemon GS Chronicles

Story

The story is inspired by the Generation II games, namely Gold, Silver, and Crystal. When we say inspired, it doesn’t mean that it follows the story point per point.

You could say that there are elements to it, such as taking place in Johto and having the usual point of being a Pokemon Master when it’s all over.

Features

The graphics of the game are updated, so it looks like HeartGold and SoulSilver. Pretty much everything is changed, so it doesn’t look anything like FireRed, so that alone is already a good improvement.

There are some graphical bugs in some cases, although it doesn’t really affect the gameplay.

The Pokemon roster is only up to Gen 4, which is around 494. The items, moves, and other things are all updated similarly to Gen 8. Another notable feature is the day-to-night cycle which was a mechanic back in the Gen 2 games.

Pokemon locations are also swapped and will appear depending on the time of day. The game has enough content for you to go around.

  1. Pls help, whenever I leave any Pokemon Center my screen turns to black and I can’t do anything. I literally can’t progress in the game now. Any help would be greatly appreciated 🙂

    • Hello MZ, thanks for coming here. Remove all unnecessary cheats from your emulator, leaving only the essential ones. If the problem persists, delete the .cheat file located in the root directory of your emulator. This issue arises when multiple cheats are enabled simultaneously, causing confusion in the game’s programming. Hope my answer helps.

    • Perhaps it’s an issue from patching. Make sure to follow the instructions provided in the game, this includes the recommended FireRed rom version for the game. Hope my answer helps.

  2. Eh I would like this game more if ultra gold sigma didn’t exist with more pokemon disappointing as this could have been easily better but even with every other game having up to gen 8 it only has to gen 4 basically just get the heart gold and soul silver rom for DS and you got the better version of this game.

  3. Just an FYI, I’m fairly certain this version is out of date. The current version is Beta v2.6 – Build date 06/15/21. The version offered on here is Beta v2.6 – Build date 12/07/20.

  5. Hello I recently started playing this and I’m having issues changing the game to night time. I read something that said it’s through the pokegear map but I can’t find anything. I’m playing through emudeck on the steamdeck if that helps

    • You need to find an option to enable the GBA’s Real-Time Clock. I’m not sure how to do that on your platform, or if you even can. If you can, after you do so, you may also need to change your save type (again, I don’t know if this is something you can do on your emulation platform). You need to change it to Flash, and the size to 128k. You probably will want to ask a community for your emulation platform if these changes are possible to make.

      • funnily enough this happened to me on GBC As a kid. I got to this point then didn’t play for a week. Picked it back up and “wait…how do I get out?!” Couldn’t find the hole so just restarted. Felt so dumb when I realized my mistake lol

  8. All the added dialogue is quite annoying. Plus adding extra steps to progress, like get lucky enough to notice your rival in the PC to get past violet city, is pointless and stupid.

    • Hi there, thanks and that’s indeed a good suggestion, I already added the FireRed version used for patching. See “Game Information” section.

    • While the version needed is stated, there are, bafflingly, two versions of the squirrels ROM out there with the exact same name. I have no idea what the difference is, though GS Chronicles requires the base game to be version 1.0, so maybe one of the squirrels ROMs is 1.0 while the other is newer. I don’t know. The version that shows up at the top of the Google results doesn’t work. I had to download a different version I can’t obviously link to it here, but the version needed is mentioned in one of the topmost search results; it’s how I got the right version.

  9. In the radio tower and the central park there is only 1 clerk at the desk, so I cannot do the quizz or start the bug contest.
Other than that I haven’t encountered any other issues.

    Does anybody know the reason?

  10. Is stantler a normal/psychic type? Because when i caught it, it says that it’s a normal type only but the docs says stantler’s a normal/psychic type.

  11. Mega Umbreon is a good idea for the Johto RomHack. Instead of just the canon Mega Evolution and Adddition of Johto starters.

  13. Hey uh I can’t play the hack my emulator says the file is corrupt and so I looked at the file and it has a ton of these question marks in boxes. I’m not a coder but when there are more of those than anything else it looks crazy. I can send a screen shot if you want?

  14. Hello!
I just discovered your website and I’m really glad I did! Super neat!
    Fan games are just wonders!
I met some patching issues tho with GS Chronicles and Unbound. I tried to patch the FireRed base game version (Pokemon Fire Red Version (U) (V1.1) but both patcher inform me that it’s not the right game file…
It worked with the others I downloaded: Rocket Edition, AshGray, and Liquid Crystal.
    Any advice would be appreciated!
Thanks in advance and thanks again for these games!

    • Hi FryTHF, I believe those rom hacks that fail to patch require v1.0. Many rom hacks need v1.0 and I believe it applies to Unbound and GS Chronicles.
